Medical Emergencies (SAFE Campus)

For life-threatening or unknown medical emergencies, call 911:

  • if you call from a College phone, Security will be notified immediately
  • if you call 911 from a cell phone, call Security, or have someone else call Security,  at (807) 623-0465
  • before attempting to help, ensure that you are not in danger
  • do not move the ill or injured person, unless it is essential for his or her safety
  • try to make the injured person comfortable
  • assign someone to meet Security and to direct them to your location
  • provide first aid if you are trained to do so, or contact a Designated First Aider in your area
  • Document and report the incident:
    • employees report to their supervisors or managers
    • students report through the Student Success Centre; students in Residence report through the Residence Manager for incidents occuring at Residence

For all other injuries and medical emergencies, call 922:

  • fefore attempting to help, ensure that you are not in danger
  • do not move the ill or injured person, unless it is essential for his or her safety
  • try to make the injured person comfortable
  • assign someone to meet Security and to direct them to your location
  • provide first aid if you are trained to do so, or contact a Designated First Aider in your area
  • Document and report the incident:
    • employees report to their supervisors or managers
    • students report through the Student Success Centre; students in Residence report through the Residence Manager for incidents occuring at Residence

If a person is critically injured:

  • follow the instructions listed above, and:
    • be prepared to provide first aid assistance to witnesses who may be traumatized by the accident

    • with the resources available to you, secure the scene of the accident: do not begin to “clean-up” or to disturb the accident scene
    • when possible, keep witnesses nearby: their observations will be required by those investigating the occurrence

If a person is killed:

  • follow the instructions listed above, and:
    • be prepared to provide first aid assistance to witnesses who may be traumatized by the accident

    • with the resources available to you, secure the scene of the accident: do not begin to “clean-up” or to disturb the accident scene
    • when possible, keep witnesses nearby: their observations will be required by those investigating the occurrence
