Campus First Aid Services / Critical Injuries
Campus Security Partners
All Campus Security Partners are trained first aiders with CPR certification. They can provide first aid service; contact other first aid providers on campus; and arrange transportation (taxi or ambulance service) to emergency medical attention. Call 922 for assistance.
Campus Response Team
The College’s Campus Response Team provides mobile emergency first aid service, 8 hours per day (8 AM to 4 PM), Monday to Friday, during the fall and winter semesters. Each member of the Team is a trained first aider who holds CPR certification. The Team is radio-dispatched through Campus Security Partners. Call 922 to arrange for assistance.
Designated First Aiders
Designated First Aiders (DFAs) are College staff who are trained first aiders, who also hold CPR certification. DFAs are located across campus, and provide emergency first aid service in the vicinity of their work areas. Look for signs indicating the location of first aid kits: the name and contact number of the DFA will be listed on the sign.

Health Services
Nursing staff are available at Heath Services during regular clinic hours during the fall and winter semesters. Contact Health Services at 475-6169 for physicians’ clinic hours during the fall and winter semesters. To book an appointment at Health Services, use one-touch dialing from the corridor Help! Phones. Health Services is closed during the summer semester.
Other Staff
Other College employees are also trained first aiders: Residence Assistants, College Wellness Centre staff, and staff of the Children and Family Centre.
Critical Injuries
“Critical injuries”, as defined in the “Critical Injuries Regulation”, made under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, include injuries that:
- place life in jeopardy,
- produce unconsciousness,
- result in substantial loss of blood,
- involve the fracture of a leg or arm but not a finger or toe,
- involve the amputation of a leg, arm, hand or foot but not a finger or toe,
- consist of burns to a major portion of the body; or
- cause the loss of sight in an eye.
All critical injuries (or fatalities) that occur on campus must be reported to the Ministry of Labour. Reporting is initiated through Human Resources Services—Health & Safety.
The scene of the accident must not be disturbed or altered, except to save a life, relieve human suffering, or to prevent unnecessary damage to equipment or property.
