Computer Desktop Repair (Computer Services)

Service Description

College employees or students who encounter software or hardware problems with a College-owned computing devices (includes desktops, laptops, and tablets) can seek technical support by contacting the Computer Services Help Desk by calling 475-6488 (ext. 6488), or by e-mail at [email protected].

Examples of desktop computer problems include:

  • Operating system software not functioning properly
  • Application software not functioning correctly
  • Virus/spyware issues
  • PC Hardware problems
  • PC network issues
  • Computer crashes or slow performance

When a College user (staff or student) reports a computer problem to the Computer Services Help Desk, a technician will first try to resolve the problem over the phone or by e-mail.  If unable to resolve the problem this way, the technician will generate a trouble-ticket so that a technician can be dispatched in order to investigate the problem in-person.  The priority given to the ticket is dependent on the severity of the issue – with the highest priorities being given to student/classroom computer equipment or when a user is unable to perform their main job duties due the failure with their computer.

Once dispatched, the technician will work to fix the problem at the user’s station.  If the problem cannot be fixed in a timely fashion at the user’s station, the technician will then take the equipment back to the main Help Desk office and repair it there.  If the problem is found to be hardware related, the technician will then escalate the trouble-ticket for the repair to another technician within the department who is responsible for PC hardware repairs.  The hardware technician will then either fix the problem or, if the equipment is covered under a warranty, contact vendor support to fix the issue.  Equipment off warranty may be fixed for a vendor charged fee or, if not repairable, may need to be replaced.  Off warranty vendor fixes or equipment replacements are at the expense of the College department that is responsible for that equipment.

Only College owned computing equipment is supported through the Colleges Computer Services Help Desk department.  Personally-owned computers from employees or students are not officially supported.
