Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Description:

Confederation College allows some employee to access the Confederation College network using a Virtual Private Network Connection (VPN). A VPN is a special type of remote access connection that joins two networks together. The data traveling over the connection is encrypted to protect the content. In most cases, the VPN is used to allow employees access to restricted Computing resources (resources which are not available over the Internet) on the College network from their home network.

Who is it for:

The VPN service is provided by a specialized piece of equipment. The equipment has limited resources so the VPN service is only provided to Employees that absolutely must access a service without coming into the College.

How do I use it:

To access the service you must first contact the Confederation College Help Desk at 475-6488 (ext. 6488) and request the service activation on your Confederation College account. The technician will ask you for the reason that you need the VPN service and your request will be evaluated by Computer Services to determine if the service can be provided. In the event that it can be provided, instructions will be give to outline how to connect to the VPN service from your home.
