Colour Definition FAQ's:

The colours in the above files are defined using one of the following standard colour models:

  • CMYK is used for professional printing on a printing press, using the standard 4 ink colour colours Cyan, Magenta Yellow and Black (CMYK), usually when there are photographs/black text involved. Under CMYK, the official college colours have to be simulated using combinations of these 4 ink colours. (somewhat of a compromise since college colours are similated by using various sized dots of the CMYK colours, as opposed to using two solid colour specific PMS inks that are specically mixed to a specific PMS colour).
  • RGB (Red Green Blue) is for on-screen use  (i.e. computer or television).
  • PMS (Pantone Matching System) is for professional printing using only the two official college ink colours (the blue & the deep red only). Used to produce rich, saturated, solid (not screened) colours, where no standard colour photographs are involved. (typically used for promotional items where the only thing on it is a logo - a shopping bag for example)
