Waste Audit

Waste Audits are completed to identify the quantities of waste that are generated on campus and to identify opportunities for improvements to our waste collection system. Waste Audits are completed in accordance with Ontario Regulation 102/94 Waste Audits and Waste Reduction Work Plans.

2022 Waste Audit

The 2022 Waste Audit was completed in partnership with the students in the Environmental Technician Program, BEST Cleaners, and Facilities Services. Our diversion rate, the amount of waste that is diverted from the landfill through recycling, was 19%.
Based on the waste audit findings, we are exploring initiatives such as communications campaigns; investigating the integration of centralized sorting to remove classroom and office disposal bins; and moving towards organics waste separation across campus.

Energy Reporting

Energy Reporting is required by all public agencies, including educational institutions, to report their annual energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions of designated operations to the Ministry of Energy each year.

Energy Reports:

Conservation and Demand Management Plan

Each organization is also required to develop an Energy Conservation and Demand Management (CDM) Plan outlining how the organization will reduce energy consumption. Confederation College's previous CDM Plan (2014 - 2019) completed 12 major energy projects that resulted in $4 million of annual energy savings and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 45,000 tonnes.

Our current CDM Plan (2019 - 2024) saw the decommissioning and demolition of the old Fitness Centre and an LED conversion of exterior roadway and sidewalk lighting. This has resulted in annual reduction of 117 tonnes of greenhouse gases.
