Student Information Systems - Banner, Cognos

Description

The College student records are managed using the College Enterprise Resource Planning System - Banner.

Banner provides  functional screens (known as Banner INB) for clerical staff to process individual student record transactions - grades, course selections, timetables, etc. Banner INB is also used in the Registrar's Office to make system-wide configuration of class schedules, grading schemes, student billing, and other academic administrative functions.

Banner SSB (Self Service Banner) is provided for casual users of the system.  SSB provides web based, simpler access to the most commonly used student and employee functions.

The College uses Cognos to provide an alternative presentation of course and student data to faculty and Registrar's staff.  Cognos uses a subset copy of Banner data to provide various reports.  The data is synchronized weekly.  It is most commonly used by faculty to view their class rosters with student photos.  This speeds up faculty familiarity with the students in the classes they teach.

Who is it for

  • Banner SSB — Self service Banner provides web based functionality for faculty and students.
  • Banner INB — clerical level transaction screens providing functionality at a detail level.  In the student module, Banner INB is used by Registrar's staff.
  • Cognos — faculty who want an alternate presentation of information regarding the classes they teach.

How do I use it

  • You require a College user account to sign in.  Your role at the College will determine the privileges and data to which you will have access.
  • Use the College portal (portal.confederationcollege.ca) to sign on, and select either the Millennium or Banner icon. 
  • Some student system data is presented in other applications - directly from the portal, in web registration.
