Experiential Learning Opportunities

The Civil Engineering Technician program at Confederation College is designed to equip students with the practical skills and knowledge required for a successful career in civil engineering. Our program offers valuable experiential learning opportunities through Optional Co-op and Field Work components, ensuring that students gain firsthand experience in the industry.

  • Optional Co-op: This program feature offers students a chance to engage in paid work experiences, which occur outside of the academic term. The co-op provides practical, hands-on experience in real-world work environments, allowing students to apply the theories and techniques learned in class to actual engineering projects. This not only enhances their learning but also prepares them for future employment by developing their professional skills and building industry connections.
  • Field Work: Students will participate in field work exercises, which are integral to understanding the practical aspects of civil engineering. These sessions are designed to complement classroom learning, offering students the opportunity to apply their knowledge in real-life situations, conduct site investigations, and understand the complexities of civil engineering projects in various environments.

Through these experiential learning opportunities, students in the Civil Engineering Technician program are prepared to meet the challenges of the field with practical experience, critical problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of civil engineering principles.

Highlights for me include being outside of the classroom – surveying and doing the hands-on labs – it’s just a really good experience for being in the...
