Welcome Ryan Grau!

We are very pleased to announce that Ryan Grau is joining the team in the position of Manager, Facilities Services, beginning February 28, 2022.

Ryan was born and raised in Thunder Bay. He graduated from Lakehead University with Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree in 2006. Ryan continued his education at University of Toronto, completing a Master of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering in 2008.

Ryan’s passion for science and engineering led him to become a Professional Mechanical Project Engineer for TBT Engineering Limited. He became an expert in Building Sciences, having opportunities to develop, design, and manage construction projects. Throughout Ryan’s career, he focused on energy efficiency and building sustainability. Ryan completed dozens of commercial building energy audits in Thunder Bay and throughout Northwestern Ontario. His energy audits identify energy saving measures and renewable energy technologies that can save building owners money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Ryan’s drive to protect the environment encouraged him to further his studies, becoming a Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP) in 2014. As a Commissioning Specialist, Ryan ensures that buildings are designed and operated optimally. Ryan is often called to troubleshoot problems in buildings with poor energy performance, and has developed a reputation of finding unique and innovated solutions to save energy.

When Ryan is not working, you can find him enjoying the outdoors with his family and friends. He is an avid fisherman and hunter, with a true love for nature. He also enjoys traveling, playing music, and participating in sports like tennis and volleyball. During COVID, he picked up the hobby of studying and playing the game of chess.

Ryan always enjoys solving a problem, if you see him around campus say hi and share any facilities concerns you might have.
