Please join us in welcoming Smitha Rodrigues to the School of Health, Negahneewin, and Community Services!  Smitha is a new full-time faculty member teaching in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) and Practical Nursing (PN) programs. Smitha has more than 8 years of experience being involved in patient care and academic roles including Registered Nurse, Lactation Consultant, Lactation Educator & Counsellor, Nursing Faculty, Researcher and Clinical Instructor. Smitha’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and her Master of Arts in Nursing, as well as a certification in Lactation Consultation.  Smitha has previously taught for Lakehead University in the collaborative BScN program.  She has participated in several research projects that has resulted in publications and presentations at various conferences.  Smitha’s teaching philosophy is rooted in Constructivism. According to this theory, knowledge must be constructed by a person, not just transmitted to the person. Constructivism is the theory that says learners construct knowledge rather than just passively grasp information. The whole notion of this theory is to provide opportunities for participants to contribute actively. The students will most definitely benefit from Smitha’s approach to teaching, supporting and building their critical thinking skills.  Smitha starts March 20, 2023 and we look forward to having Smitha as part of the nursing team!

Welcome Smitha!
