Troy Mangatal would like to welcome Malek Alsmadi as the newest full-time faculty member to the School of Engineering Technology.

Malek Alsmadi got his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Lakehead University in 2020. He received the Dean's Scholar Award for Engineering along with the President's Scholarship for the duration of his Ph.D.

Malek has more than 17 years of extensive teaching and industry experience in the field of Information and Communications Technology. In his recent experience he was a postdoctoral fellow and a contract lecturer at Lakehead University. He also taught at the Confederation College in the School of Engineering Technology both as a part-time and sessional professor over the last few semesters.

Malek has more than 20 research papers published in the most prestigious peer reviewed journals in his research area. Moreover, he has been reviewing multiple IEEE journals and conferences. Recently, he has been elevated to the grade of IEEE Senior member.

When asked what he is most looking forward to, Malek replied “I aim to provide my students with the knowledge and experience they need to be successful in their future careers. I believe our goal as professors is to foster the next generation of divergent thinkers and problem-solvers."

Malek has been teaching with us progressively as a part-time, sessional, partial load, and is now starting his first full semester as a full-time professor in the Computer Programming program.

Please join me and the Dean of Engineering Technology, Colin Kelly, in welcoming Malek to joining the team as a full-time faculty member.
