Dean Colin Kelly would like to welcome Kevin Schiiler as the newest full-time faculty member to the School of Engineering Technology. Kevin is a gradate of Confederation College, having completed all three Electrical programs.

After his final graduation from the College in 2001, he gained experience working extensively as a consultant for a local engineering firm, specializing in electrical field design for automation and control systems in the mining, water and wastewater sectors. Kevin has worked as an Instrumentation supervisor and spent time working at the diamond mines in the Northwest Territories. He moved into maintenance planning and was team lead focussing on planned maintenance, budgeting and small projects for fixed assets. Kevin played pivotal role with Musselwhite as Automation Coordinator where he was responsible for remote vehicle operations. He operated vehicles from Thunder Bay, 500 km away.

Over the last few semesters, Kevin taught at the College in the School of Engineering Technology both as a part-time and sessional professor. Kevin was one of the professors instrumental in delivering programming during the spring/summer pilot project.

When asked what he is most looking forward to, Kevin replied "I am excited to join the faculty here where I will be instructing in the Electronics program. I am looking forward to putting some of my nearly 20 years of field experience into the learning experience for our students." The value of having Kevin added to the faculty complement is clear. Kevin brings a focus for students "so newly graduated technicians are in a position where they can immediately add value to their future employers." Pretty good news for our Program Advisory Committee members and the mining industry across northwestern Ontario and beyond.

Please join me and the Chair of Engineering Technology, Chris Paci, in welcoming Kevin to joining the team as a full-time faculty member.
