As we all know from our own mailboxes, the quantity of mail we are receiving is decreasing.  The 3rd party courier costs have increased exponentially with the rise in fuel surcharges.  Recognizing that mail and parcel delivery is necessary between the Shuniah building and other Thunder Bay campus buildings, we have explored other options.

There will be NO changes to the deliveries within the Shuniah Building.  This will only be a process change for McIntyre, Dorion, NWOIC, Children and Family Centre, NEW @ Sibley Conference Centre, and ACE.

Starting next week January 16, 2023, the 3rd party courier service for daily pick up and drop off mail and parcels will be discontinued, and the following service will take its place.

Mail Bag Delivery

The new process will be to have security deliver and pick up the mail bags daily when they are on their regular rounds, to each building.  This will remain daily.  Essentially the only difference is that security will be assisting with the delivery on their regular rounds.

The bags will be prepared for exchange by 4:30 every day Monday to Friday.  Security will pick up during their evening shift from S&R and switch the bags out on their evening rounds at the McIntyre, Dorion, NWOIC, Children and Family Centre, NEW @ Sibley Conference Centre, and ACE.

Please ensure your mail bag is ready in the standard place for pickups prior to leaving your office every evening.

If there is a pick-up missed, please report it to S&R and we will follow up.

Parcel Delivery

Small parcels from the Shuniah building will be delivered 2 times per week by the Shipper & Receiver.  She will make her rounds typically starting at 10:15 am on Tuesday and Thursday each week.

At any time if there is a package you are waiting for, you can confirm its arrival by calling 475-6238.  If you cannot wait until the scheduled delivery time, please feel free to stop by and pick up from Shipping Receiving office anytime between 8:00am and 4:30pm.

Please remember to be addressing large parcels to the physical address of your building, as per the College address changes.

Note: When the shipper receiver is on vacation, or away.  Parcels to buildings will be delivered by a facilities service worker assigned to assist during that period.

This plan will see a decrease in our mail costs, lower scope 3 GHG emissions by utilizing existing trips to buildings by security to deliver mail and maintain the service to the buildings.

Please be patient as we bring this service online and work through the first couple of weeks.

Print Shop Orders & Deliveries

When there is a print shop item that comes in for another building in Thunder Bay; the person will be contacted by the S&R to determine if they can wait until the next scheduled delivery day.  If it is required prior S&R will work with the person to arrange the delivery or pick up of the print job package.

Exciting changes are yet to come to further optimize the shipping and receiving processes.  We are currently working on an electronic parcel management system that will eliminate the manual paperwork and keep online records of parcels that have been received and signed for more accurately.  Stay tuned for updates.
