There are some changes to the Human Resources team. Cheryl Lynn Lamers, Manager of Employee Engagement and Development, has decided not to return from her leave of absence. This has created a vacancy and therefore an opportunity to do some restructuring of responsibilities. As a part of this review, we connected with other colleges our size to compare our structures and job fact sheets, reviewed our internal workflows and processes, and created a plan to ensure all required functions are covered via reallocation of duties and/or contracted to an external consultant on an as-needed basis.

The result of this review was the elimination of the Manager of Employee Engagement and Development and the creation of the role of Human Resources Officer. Allison Hynnes has made the decision to step into this role as Human Resources Officer. She will focus on Recruitment and Selection, Employee Development and Onboarding, Employee Wellness and Safety, as well as Employee Engagement. She is looking forward to this new position and continuing to support our Human Resource initiatives.

As a result, we will be posting to fill the position of Senior Manager, Human Resources & Labour Relations who will take the lead on collective agreement administration including sitting on all 3 Union College Committees, the oversight of training and development initiatives, and ensuring consistent application of human resources policy across the College.

Finally, we are currently conducting interviews to fill the newly developed role of Director, Corporate Communications and hope to have the position filled by the end of the month. We look forward to welcoming the new director to this role to continue supporting and showcasing our many achievements across all campuses.
