I’d like to thank everyone for a fantastic September. Start up went smoothly, seeing a large number of students and staff return to the many buildings on the main and regional campuses. There have been many changes this fall and everyone has been responsive, sensitive and professional – something I have noticed every day while I walk around the main campus – lots of smiles and waves.

In keeping with the theme of change, I have a number of announcements that affect our Academic structure.

First, please join me in welcoming Anne Renaud as our new Dean for the School of Business, Hospitality & Media Arts. Anne brings with her over two decades of College experience overseeing various areas and departments. I know she will continue to foster relationships and further build our strong programming in the School.

Coming with her to the School are the DE and CE portfolios, including the staff that support those areas. Anne and the team have fostered tremendous growth in the DE and CE portfolio and I know they will continue that momentum as part of her new role.

Also coming with Anne to the School, at least in the short term until a further review can be completed, is our Regional programming. The Regional Directors will continue to report to Anne and oversee our Eastern and Western campuses, including dual credits being delivered in the Region.

Other areas that had reported to Anne and the School of Access and Success are being adjusted. The Health Centre will report to the School of Health, Negahneewin & Community Services. The Student Services department (with a new Director in the process of being recruited right now) will report directly to the VPA’s office, as will the Library. The Director of Student Services will continue to oversee Accessibility Services, Counselling Services, Tutoring Services and Academic Support Services (Student Success Advisors and Indigenous Student Navigators).  Rounding out this portfolio will be the Testing Centre.

Many of the Special Projects that are overseen by Anne are continuing but will report to other Managers/Directors.

The Dean role for the School of Access and Success will not be filled at this time. I am confident that this announcement and these structural adjustments will allow Confederation College to continue to be responsive to our students and our communities while allowing us some flexibility to support our operations in positive ways.

Anne’s appointment and the other structural changes will take effect on Monday, October 18th. I hope you will all join me in congratulating Anne on this new journey.

Respectfully,

Richard
