Come join us for the FIFTH annual D-DAY to Canada Challenge - put on by the Kakabeka Falls Legion Half Marathon and 8K - (Royal Canadian Legion)

Juno Beach was the Allied code name for a 10 km stretch of French coastline assaulted by Canadian soldiers on D-Day, 6 June 1944, during the Second World War. The Canadian Army’s 3rd Infantry Division and 2nd Armoured Brigade seized the beach and its seaside villages while under intense fire from German defenders — an extraordinary example of military skill, reinforced by countless acts of personal courage. The 3rd Infantry Division took heavy casualties in its first wave of attack but took control of the beach by the end of the day. More than 14,000 Canadian soldiers landed or parachuted into France on D-Day. The Royal Canadian Navy contributed 110 warships and 10,000 sailors and the RCAF contributed 15 fighter and fighter-bomber squadrons to the assault. There were 1,074 Canadian casualties, including 359 killed.

There is NO cost to join in an participate in this virtual event-- and once the Challenge starts, we will post on Friday each week all of the participants' totals

For those interested, and it is completely voluntary, we are accepting donations for our 2294  18 (Thunder Bay) Service Battalion Royal Canadian Army Cadets, and for our "No Stone Left Alone Project"

This " No Stone LEft Alone" project honours Veteran's graves in local cementers with the cleaning of their headstones at least once per year and during the week of Remembrance Day - students from 4 different schools will be painting poppies on to stones we create to place at each veterans headstone.. Currently we are working on Mountain View Cemetery, St Andrews Cemetery, Riverside Cemetery and Stanley Cemetery

We will be at Stanley Cemetery on June 12 with Valley Central Public Schoot and at Mountainview/ St Patrick's on June 20 with Westmount Public School -- we are still working on a date for Riverside with Woodcrest Public School

For those who choose to donate any donation of $20 or more - a participant or finisher certificate (depending on whether or not you complete the challenge or if you choose to participate only) with your total will be produced for you -- this year - every one participating will get a certificate whether they participate or complete the challenge

For any donation of $35 or more - the participant will get both the certificate and a tax deduction good for your 2023 Income Tax.

People can donate on line when they register (though we cannot give a tax receipt for the nominal fees charged by the platform)

The CHALLENGE we have THREE Challenges that are available for you to undertake
