Every February, people across Canada take part in Black History Month, through learning, activities, and festivities. Over 1.5 million Black Canadians made up of over 300 ethnic diversities are helping to shape the future of the land where we live. This month, take some time to learn about and celebrate the countless contributions of Black Canadians, through government resources, teaching tools, and film. Below is a list of resources to help you gain insight into the histories, successes, sacrifices, and triumphs of Black Canadians.

BLACK COMMUNITIES IN CANADA: A Rich History - This National Film Board playlist of 31 films is intended to provide a glimpse of the multi-layered lives of Canada’s diverse Black communities. The incredible stories of strength, courage, and perseverance in the face of adversity found in these films are rarely found in mainstream history books, making them an important classroom resource.
