THUNDER BAY, ON, April 6, 2022 – Earlier today the Government of Canada announced that Confederation College will receive $681,000 to help recruit, train and mentor new energy advisors for northern Ontario.

The federal investment will support the delivery of a new energy advisor training program at the College, in partnership with the Canadian Institute for Energy Training, to prepare up to 75 candidates to pass the exams required to become energy advisors. Once certified, energy advisors provide home energy evaluations to homeowners who are seeking to take advantage of the Canada Greener Homes Grant to upgrade their homes and improve their homes’ energy efficiency.

“Confederation College is pleased to be one of eight organizations across Canada who will train up to an additional 2,000 energy advisors,” said Kathleen Lynch, President of Confederation College. “The new energy advisor training program is another way the College can contribute to sustainable communities, including providing access to this important training to underrepresented populations in our region.”

Confederation College is a member of the Sustainable Development Goals Accord and committed to its 17 Goals, which include quality education, affordable and clean energy, and sustainable cities and communities.

More information about the new energy advisor training program will be available at the College’s website soon. In the meantime, those interested in finding out more about the program are encouraged to reach out to Alicia Brink at [email protected] or 807-475-6602.
