Confederation College’s Applied Research and Innovation office is your gateway to college applied research and development. We offer guidance and support to faculty and staff who are interested in doing applied research, as well as fostering applied research and development projects with business, industry and community organizations in fields related to our academic programs.

What is applied research?

Applied research is the development of innovative solutions to real-world challenges. It tackles practical problems by applying the latest technology and knowledge to create new products, services, and processes, or improve current products and practices that have measurable and immediate social or economic benefit, including social innovation and action research.

How can the Applied Research and Innovation office help faculty and staff?

We can help you turn your idea into an applied research project. From there, we can help you identify potential partnerships, identify funding opportunities and complete grant applications. We can also assist with the management of awarded funds, student research assistants, risk, project timelines and financial reporting.

What funding opportunities are available?

There are multiple funding opportunities available for applied research projects, depending on the industry, topic, size of industry/community partner, location of the business/community partner, etc. Feel free to connect with us to discuss funding opportunities in more detail.

How long does it take to get a project started?

In general, it takes four to eight weeks to fully develop a project and a proposal for funding. From there, funding decisions can take several weeks to be made.

Interested in pursuing a project and want to know the next steps?
