APIWIN (“A place to sit”) is re-open!  Boozhoo to students, who can now come to Apiwin for a quiet, safe space to rest, study and complete course work.

Please join me in welcoming three new Indigenous Student Navigators to Apiwin: Heather Carroll, Neebin Scanlon-Wabasse and Emily MacKenzie.

Hello, my name is Heather! I am Ojibwe and English/Irish, and my family belongs to Couchiching First Nation. I am from rural Manitoba, and moved to Thunder Bay for post-secondary school. I completed my Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Women’s Studies at Lakehead University, then came to Confederation College and completed the Native Child and Family Services – Accelerated program. I have always been passionate about women’s rights, Indigenous rights, and helping the community, and I am so excited to join the team at Confederation College!

Boozhoo my name is Neebin. I am a proud member of Webequie FN and Treaty 9. I grew up in the Thunder Bay area and am a part of the 2021 Lakehead graduating class (Indigenous Studies), and am continuing my studies in the field. Travelling to remote communities throughout my career has been a pleasure that inspires me to create an impact in creating a comfortable learning environment for all students.

Hello! My family ties go to Tyendinage First Nation, which is Mohawk Territory near Kingston, ON. I have been spending the last few years learning about my family history and culture and have enjoyed the journey it has taken me on so far. I moved to Thunder Bay from Southern Ontario and started work at Confederation College as an Indigenous Recruitment Intern in 2017. Upon completion of my internship I returned to school to complete my Bachelor of Education at Lakehead University. I spent time working for The Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre before returning to the college as an Indigenous Student Navigator, which I am beyond excited for.  Emily

Stop in to say hi to Heather, Neebin and Emily!
