How/Why I Become a Teacher

Hi, I’m Ash Laframboise! I am from Opwaaganisiniing (Red Rock Indian Band). I’m a teacher, passionate about sharing in academics and culture. Relocating to Thunder Bay to pursue HBA/BEd in Education and Indigenous Learning, I found comfort and connection through spending time learning and sharing in Anishinaabe culture and continuing to visit home for land-based activities.

Employed through the Children’s Centre Thunder Bay and Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre, I have been able to share in my experience moving from my home community to the city and inspire youth to continue to pursue their dreams by utilizing their gifts in their bundle - whether that be an Eagle feather, or a hockey stick.

My Educational Background & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education, Land Based Learning

My Relevant Experience in the Field

I continue to work with youth at Evergreen: A United Neighbourhood where I sit on the Board of Directors. I am currently an Instructor and Coordinator for the Pre-Apprenticeship and Training Program at Anishinabek Employment and Training Services where I continue to connect learners from rural communities to resources in our great city!
