Academic Council Update: Sept 2021 - June 2022

Over the past year Academic Council has had many conversations, including:

  • College Audit and Self Study Report
  • Orientation approaches - virtual and on campus
  • Retention Strategies
  • Faculty Evaluation process and form
  • Faculty concerns regarding academic delivery (online and f2f)
  • Strategic Plan | Program Mix document
  • Virtual Reality in Education - helping learners gain hands on experience in low-risk virtual settings.
  • Student Career Services presentation

 

Two new program proposals were presented to Council for feedback prior to receiving Board of Governor approval:

  • Apprenticeship Certificates
  • Indigenous Leadership and Community Development Degree Program

 

Several policies were reviewed, including:

  • 5-3-03  Acquisition of a Second Diploma/Certificate

  • 5-6-02  Program Prioritization, Revitalization and Rationalization 
  • 5-6-08  New Program Development

 

Subcommittee Updates:

Transforming Teaching and Learning Subcommittee developed a Terms of Reference, collaborated to deliver VR in Education presentation to Academic Council, and conducted research to inform future work. The subcommittee also brought forward the following recommendations:

  • implement automatic messaging from Bbd to support at risk students, and
  • identify gaps in provision of software to faculty when it is required to complete a course objective.

Access and Success Subcommittee prepared a Non-Graduation Best Practice Guide. The subc plans to continue work on Academic Probation process forms, Course Evaluation and Grading policy, and be an advocate for student services.

Program Review Subcommittee have evaluated several Program presentations, namely: 

  • Aerospace Manufacturing
  • Business / Business Admin Accounting
  • Engineering Business and Safety Management
  • Personal Support Worker
  • Interactive Media Development
