Accelerating Ontario's Mining Workforce

Program Overview

Step into Ontario’s growing mining industry with Confederation College’s Immersive Mining Training Program, developed in partnership with the Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR). This innovative pilot program prepares individuals for rewarding mining careers through a cutting-edge virtual training model that combines eLearning, 360° video, and immersive virtual reality (VR).

Program Length & Delivery Format

Course Length: 15 hours
Delivery Mode: Fully online, self-paced

Participants complete a flexible sequence of learning components, including:

• eLearning Modules covering core concepts in mining, safety, and industry practices
• 360° Video Experiences offering realistic views of mining environments
• Virtual Reality Training simulating real on-site mining tasks and challenges

This format allows learners to build industry knowledge and applied skills at their own pace in a safe and accessible environment.

Admission Information & Requirements

This program is offered as a pilot project at no cost to participants.

To enroll, learners must:

• Be 18 years of age or older
• Have a minimum Grade 10 education
• Be legally eligible to work in Canada
• Sign a Technology Agreement for the loan and use of the VR headset

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the Immersive Mining Training Program will be able to:

1. Understand the profile of mining operations and camp life in northwestern Ontario
2. Gain exposure to mining operations through immersive VR experiences
3. Apply safety practices and industry standards within simulated workplace environments
4. Participants will have access to employment support services upon completion
