Student Resources (WAC)
Like all language skills, you need to use them regularly to be good at them.
Writing assigned in your classes will help you learn the material and improve your thinking about ideas in the courses. Writing assigned across the curriculum will help prepare you for the day-in and day-out communicative tasks you will face on the job, no matter what the job is. Equally important, you need to learn about how writing is used within your discipline.
Overall, you will learn more and will leave better prepared to face communication challenges if you write consistently over the course of a college program (WAC Clearinghouse, n.d., “What’s in it for Students?”).
