McIntyre Building Air Conditioning Upgrade

Thunder Bay

Please be advised that there will be construction activity occurring on the roof of the original side of the McIntyre Building to upgrade the air conditioning systems. Three condensing units and the associated evaporator coils will be replaced during this upgrade. The new equipment will utilize variable-speed compressors for improved energy efficiency and will replace the current ozone-depleting refrigerant (R-22) with a more environmentally friendly refrigerant (R-410A).

The first set of units will be lifted onto the roof from Parking Lot N on Friday, May 12th at approximately 10:00 AM. The next lift will occur approximately 1.5 weeks later.

The construction project is expected to last approximately 4 weeks. Please expect some construction noise from the roof as well as periods where certain sections of the original McIntyre Building will be without “mechanical cooling”. Please note that “economizer cooling” (i.e. cooling using the outdoor air) will be utilized when ambient conditions permit.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to make campus improvements.
