Confederation College Hosts Successful Aviation Day, Highlighting Strong Industry Demand

Confederation College welcomed a strong turnout of students, job seekers, and industry partners to its annual Aviation Day at the Aviation Centre of Excellence. The event highlighted ongoing demand for skilled aviation professionals and the College’s role in preparing graduates for careers in the sector. More than twenty aviation employers, including local companies, major carriers, and the Air Force, were on hand to meet with students from the College’s two aviation programs.
The event included a public session where attendees explored career pathways, connected with employers, and toured aviation training facilities. Representatives from regional and national aviation organizations were on site, many recruiting for positions such as pilots, aircraft maintenance engineers, ground crew, and technical support roles.
Aviation Day continues to serve as a key connection point between students and employers. This year’s event reflected positive momentum in the aviation sector, with strong participation from both industry partners and the community.
“Aviation Day is an important opportunity for our students to connect directly with employers and learn more about careers in the field,” said Matt Bunn, Associate Dean of Aviation at Confederation College. “The level of engagement we saw this year reflects both the strength of our programs and the demand for skilled graduates.”
The event also provided students with the opportunity to speak with employers, explore career pathways, and gain insight into the skills required for success in aviation. It also showcased Confederation College’s Aviation – Flight Management and Aviation Technician – Aircraft Maintenance programs, which provide hands-on training aligned with industry needs.
For students like Riddhi Patel, a second-year Aviation Technician – Aircraft Maintenance student who is graduating this semester, the event provides valuable insight into the industry and a chance to build connections with employers.
“I think that's a good opportunity they're giving. Aviation Day is when you meet people working in the field and get to know how it actually works, what type of maintenance they are doing, and what they expect from students,” Patel said.
Patel, who previously studied aircraft maintenance engineering in India, moved to Thunder Bay to continue her training at Confederation College. She is currently working as an apprentice with Wasaya Airways.
Aviation Day remains an important part of the College’s efforts to support workforce development and help students transition into meaningful careers in aviation.
