Confederation College celebrated the achievements of their 2025 graduating class with Convocation Ceremonies at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium. This year, 2,419 students graduated from the College across all three academic terms and eight campuses.
The Thunder Bay ceremonies saw over 1300 students crossing the stage to receive their credentials, surrounded by family, friends, faculty, and staff. Graduates represented a wide range of disciplines, including certificate, graduate certificate, diploma, and advanced diploma programs.
The ceremonies also marked a special milestone for Michelle Salo, who presided over her first convocation as President of Confederation College—and as an alumna of the institution herself.
“Convocation is always a powerful moment of pride and reflection—for our students, their families, and our entire college community,” said President Salo. “As a graduate of Confederation College, I know firsthand the value of a college education and the strength it takes to reach this milestone. It was an honour to celebrate alongside this inspiring class and to welcome them into our alumni community.”
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Governor General’s Academic Medal and the Derek and Joan Burney Award of Excellence. These prestigious honours were awarded to Rae Jardine, a Distance Education student in the Social Service Worker program. Rae earned a remarkable GPA of 96.530, including four final grades of 100 per cent. Recognized for their exceptional academic and communication skills, Rae was described as reflective, ethically grounded, and deeply aware of their role in fostering change.
Regional convocation ceremonies occurred in Marathon earlier this week and will take place in Fort Frances, Kenora, and Dryden between June 9 and 11, ensuring the celebrations extend to all areas of the Confederation College community.
