This course explores network security basics, including how hackers access online networks and the use of Firewalls and VPNs to provide security countermeasures. Students focus on both managerial and technical aspects of security. Coverage includes packet filtering, authentication, proxy servers, encryption, bastion hosts, virtual private networks (VPNs), log file maintenance, and intrusion detection systems. This course will focus on communication with individuals with a life-limiting illness, their families and significant others. Topics include: basic process and steps of effective communication, factors influencing personal and cultural attitudes in communication, identifying basic verbal and non-verbal communication, self-care for palliative care providers, and identifying challenges and facilitators to effective communication in palliative care.
This course studies the record keeping practices in hospitals and physician's offices. Emphasis is placed on hospital and medical staff organization, patient record content, procedures in filing, numbering and retention of patient records, qualitative analysis, release of information, forms control and design, indexes and registers, reimbursements, regulatory and accrediting agencies, and alternate health care delivery systems.
The course is designed to help the nurse acquire the knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to perform a complete health assessment irrespective of the population group being served. Students will review methods of obtaining and documenting a holistic assessment including a health history, physical, and psychosocial assessments. There will also be a review of screening tools used for assessing domestic violence, mental and nutritional status, functional assessment, and pain. Students will review the difference between subjective and objective data collection and will also review how to recognize and document normal and abnormal findings in the various systems of the body. Changes in practice and emerging trends in the health care sector is highlighted throughout the text. Students will review the importance of effective communication skills during a patient interview and the value of incorporating cultural competency and care in their daily interaction with patients. Medical Office Procedures is designed for the learner who is pursuing a career in health administration in a physician's office, clinic, or hospital setting. It will include information on professional and career responsibilities, interpersonal and written communications, safety standards, infection control, records management, order entry, financial administration, and managing the medical office. The Canada Health Act and the principles of OHIP medical billing will be introduced.
This course focuses on the cooking principles and methods for preparing food in large quantities. Students will be introduced to control systems used in quantity food production including menu planning, standardized recipes, portion control, forecasting, scheduling and service. Various food types will be examined including sandwiches, salads, desserts, beverages, soups, meat, poultry, fish, eggs, milk, and cheese. Texture modified and special menu items will also be explored. This course emphasizes the importance of quality improvement and customer satisfaction in quantity food production. This course presents students with theories, terminology, and applications underlying current approaches to teamwork and working with the families of children with autism spectrum disorders are explored. The focus is on effective collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, which is essential to successful intensive behavioural intervention. Students develop the interpersonal, job-oriented skills necessary to problem-solve as team members in a flexible, empathetic, resourceful, and productive manner.. This course provides students with a detailed exposure to the methods, tools, and strategies used by bad actors (i.e. hackers) to breach and compromise computer systems and networks. Students will explore various hacking techniques and acquire hands-on experience in incident handling and response. Students will get into the mindset of hackers, gaining insights into their motives, methodologies, and techniques. They will learn about common attack vectors including network scanning, vulnerability exploitation, password cracking, social engineering, and malware deployment. By gaining exposure to the techniques employed by hackers, students will be equipped to defend and secure computer systems and networks against potential risks and threats. The course covers a wide variety of tools and technologies used in both offensive and defensive security. Students will have opportunities to explore popular hacking tools, including network analyzers, vulnerability scanners, password-cracking utilities, and intrusion detection systems. Practical exercises and simulations will enable students to apply these tools in real-world scenarios, honing their skills in identifying, mitigating, and responding to security incidents. The incident handling aspect of the course focuses on preparing students to effectively respond to security incidents. Students will develop incident response plans, and practice analyzing and containing security breaches within the boundaries of the law and respecting individual privacy rights. This course provides students with concepts of discovering and exploiting flaws in mobile applications on the iOS, Android, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile platforms. Students are introduced to a proven methodology for approaching mobile application assessments and the techniques used to prevent, disrupt and remediate the various types of attacks. Coverage includes data storage, cryptography, transport layers, data leakage, injection attacks, runtime manipulation, security controls, and cross-platform apps, with vulnerabilities highlighted and detailed information on the methods hackers use to get around standard security.
This course introduces students to the principles and practices of digital forensics and investigation. Students will learn how to identify, acquire, preserve, and analyze digital evidence using industry tools and techniques. Topics include forensic methodology, evidence handling, file system and operating system analysis, event log collection, and forensic triage. Student will also explore the integration of forensic investigations into security operations, including SIEM log analysis and incident response procedures. Emphasis is placed on professional conduct, chain of custody, and the ability to communicate forensic findings clearly in written reports.
