This course is designed for transcriptionist to perfect their skills in medical transcription and terminology. The main purpose of the course is to develop and refine transcription skills to a competitive level by using the learning activities included in the textbook. Understanding the various jurisdictions is foundational to occupational health and safety. Students learn to locate specific legislation, the interface between the statutes, regulations, codes and standards. The obligations of employers and of employees is discussed, as is the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and Regulations, filing claims, entitlement decision making, benefits, appeals and re-employment.
This course is designed to familiarize the user with medical keyboarding, medical terminology in medical documentation, and medical office skills. It includes case histories for timed writings, medical terminology, medical letters, and a variety of medical reports. These exercises will help the learner increase their knowledge of terms they will encounter on the job, and will improve their keyboarding speed and accuracy. A very brief introduction to Medical Transcription is included. This course is a prerequisite for the Beginning Medical Transcription course. PREREQUISITE: Students need minimum keyboarding skills of 30 net words per minute with 5 or less errors. Students with keyboarding skills less than this need to improve their skills prior to registering for this course. OL402, Medical Terminology, can be taken concurrently with this course.

Students study key structure elements and terms of written information protection policy and review typical policy contents. Students develop the related standards, procedures, and guidelines for implementing the policy. Students evaluate the tools needed to select, develop, and apply a security program that meets business goals.
This course focuses on the basic principles of nutrition therapy with an emphasis on person-centred care. A variety of conditions will be discussed including age-related changes, food allergies, heart disease, digestive disorders and diabetes. Students will explore the nutrition recommendations, special diets and nutrition support used in the prevention and management of these and other conditions. OL433 Introduction to Nutrition (first course in the program) and OL455 Nutrition in Health Care may be taken concurrently. This course is designed to provide students with a working knowledge of transcription of medical reports. Transcription is taking the spoken word and turning it into a written document. Case studies are provided so that the student will gain knowledge in the transcribing of various medical reports. Medical reports will be transcribed from ten individual case studies, each of which concerns an inpatient with a specific medical problem. There are between four and six reports within each case study. Students will be involved in the care of the patient from the date of admission through the date of discharge. Due to specialized theory and skills, students can expect to spend a minimum of 15 hours/week in this course.
Prerequisites: Students MUST HAVE successfully completed: OL400 and OL401. Typing speed of at least 30 wpm, familiarity with a word processing package (MS Word, WordPerfect, KeyPro software), good punctuation and grammar skills.

Preparing students to recognize and understand the inherent vulnerabilities of Windows systems by using and understanding tools and techniques to decrease the risks arising from vulnerabilities in Microsoft Operating Systems and applications, this course introduces defense strategies through understanding of system and file permissions, password and account security, the Windows Registry, Malware prevention, encryption, and Directory Service management via policies.
This course is designed to provide the student with the basic principles of efficient Health Claim Billing in Ontario. The student will learn how to use the Schedule of Benefits and Preambles of the Ministry of Health, as well as be introduced to computerized billing. It is recommended that students have taken OL402 Medical Terminology prior to this course, have good typing skills and some computer knowledge.
MACs are not compatible unless they run a Windows OS. The MAC user will be given an alternate theory assignment in lieu of the computerized billing portion of the course, however, the MAC user does not have the opportunity to practice on the billing software.
This course Prepares students to assess and then correct the vulnerabilities present within information systems. Students learn about tools and penetration testing methodologies used by ethical hackers and discusses what and who an ethical hacker is and how important they are in protecting corporate and government data from cyber-attacks. Methods and tools used in attacks and their countermeasures as well as available security resources and attack "types." Systems are also investigated.

Students explore how Information systems security and legal compliance are now required to protect critical governmental and corporate infrastructure, intellectual property created by individuals and organizations alike, and information that individuals believe should be protected from unreasonable intrusion.

Topics covered range from anatomical terminology, chemistry, cell structure and function, tissues, and the integration, organization, and control of the human body systems.
