Geology is the study of a dynamic Earth that is changing on a daily basis due to tectonic activity, volcanoes, earthquakes, landslides, meteorite strikes, tsunami and more. This introductory course outlines the formation of the Earth in the context of the formation of the Universe and Solar System. It examines the history of the Earth and of the Moon and its formation. Course content includes an examination of the properties of the Earth, its dynamic activities, its rocks and minerals and fossils, and the uses of rocks and minerals. An examination of the careers that are associated with geology is included.
Mineralogy is the study of the crystals that comprise rocks. This course studies minerals. It is a course that allows the student to become very knowledgeable about minerals and to enjoy their beauty. The course begins by explaining what minerals are, their composition and their classification. The concept of mineral formation is followed by the use of descriptive and identifying properties. The student is introduced to the use of a ‘key’. After having learned how to identify important minerals, the student will be introduced to some of the fascinating minerals on Earth: gemstones, ore minerals and essential minerals. The course concludes by examining various mineral collecting sites of the world.
This course is designed to prepare students to successfully write the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering
Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) Professional Practice Examination (PPE), required for certification for
engineering technicians and technologists by this professional certifying body. The basics of the association's
structure, contract law, ethics, and professional practice will be examined. The student assessment will include
practice examinations similar to OACETT's PPE.
This course studies the events, the causes and the effects of some of the world's greatest geological natural disasters. The course examines disasters associated with earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis, weather, hurricanes, floods, fires, extinctions and impacts from space. Each type of disaster contains a geologic or scientific component. The disasters are examined in terms of their geologic or scientific origins, their locations, their effects and impact on human lives and settlements. Advice is given as to how best to prepare for and defend yourself against these disasters.
A comprehensive review of procedures for choosing and organizing curriculum for individuals with autism of various ages is provided. Students review basic behaviour principles and teaching strategies. Emphasis is placed on curriculum development such as the utilization of the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills-R (ABLLS-R). Curriculum development is discussed with an emphasis on speech and language, social and play skills, daily living skills, and inclusion into less restrictive environments. This course introduces the student to techniques for training others specifically to implement behaviour change plans (technology transfer). Students will learn and practice techniques for individual and group presentation formats for the training of families or professionals. Students will also learn how to maintain procedural integrity, use performance feedback, evaluate the effects of training, and understand the challenges that may impact before, during and after mediator training. Emphasis will be placed on in-class presentations and role-play practice. This course includes mandatory group work. This course introduces the student to common evidence-based behavioural approaches applied in teaching individuals with autism new skills with an emphasis on strategies for teaching language, academic skills, activities of daily living, play skills, and social skills. Topics will be approached by providing the student with an understanding of the terms used, a description of the teaching techniques characterized in each of the modules (where applicable) and a basic understanding of the conceptual elements motivating the approaches. Topics will include traditional discrete trial training protocols, protocols developed based on Skinner's analysis of Verbal Behaviour, Precision Teaching, Direct Instruction, Pivotal Response Training, Augmentative and Alternative Communication and Incidental and Natural Environment Teaching.

This course will familiarize students with the digital world by exploring the hardware and software of their computer system. Students will learn to use the most common functions of the Windows operating system including File Explorer for file management, utility programs, various web browsers for social media while observing and identifying security and privacy concerns and issues. Students will learn to build properly formatted documents using Microsoft Word and spreadsheets including correctly functioning formulas using Microsoft Excel and create commanding presentations with Microsoft PowerPoint while using the cloud to store and access their files.
Computer Software Requirements: Windows and Microsoft Office 2016, 2019 or 365. MAC users will not be supported in this course.

This course will explore the roles and scope of the instructional designer and subject matter expert in the framework of an instructional design project. Students will develop effective conflict resolution strategies as well as interpersonal communication skills. Communication skills to provide feedback and drive course revisions will also be covered.
