This course will equip teachers of adults with specific tools for successful use of technology in teaching both in face-to-face and online environments. It examines effective integration of instructional technology into curriculum design, teaching techniques and assessment for adult learners. Considerable research and reading are required. Excellent computer and Internet skills are advised. You will be using multiple technologies including Turnitin.
Prior to taking this course, you should have a course in Adult Learning and in Curriculum Development.
Psychology is an academic discipline that is concerned with all aspects of human existence, focusing in particular upon human thought, emotion and action. Psychology combines the scientific study of human behaviour and mental processes with the development of therapeutic and practical approaches to human problems and concerns. Psychology is, in addition, a major contributor to the ongoing development of our understanding of human nature more generally. After a brief historical overview, this subject examines psychology as a science. Psychological research and theory making facilitates our understanding of ourselves as individuals and as members of social groups by describing, explaining and predicting how we develop and relate in society, how we create ourselves and our world; applied psychology makes its contribution through efforts to enhance individual development and adaptation within society. Students benefit by gaining an introductory knowledge of psychology that can be applied to their daily lives.
Examine the difference between QuickBooks Pro and QuickBooks Online (QBO, a cloud-based accounting software program). Apply key features including: tracking and communicating with customers, invoicing, supplier management, profitability analysis, HST management and reporting. Additionally, students will explore 3rd party application integration. Computer Software Requirements: Intuit Canada provides a complimentary 1 year student trial of QuickBooks Online. There is a sign up process within the course shell and the students will receive an email invitation from the facilitator with further directions. It requires access to the internet and a PC or Mac and is optimized for Chrome primarily. The course work cannot be done on a mobile device.

This course encourages students to examine various philosophical approaches to early childhood education with a view to developing and stating their own philosophy. The course content addresses both historical and current factors in the development of theoretical perspectives. It focuses on comparing and contrasting some theories which differ dramatically in their approaches to early education.
This course focuses on a multi-disciplinary examination of how mental health and addiction are viewed by society and how these perceptions influence society’s response to the practical and socio-political aspects of mental illness. Examine personal attitudes, societal myths, and stereotypes related to mental illness and addiction. Students will be challenged to critically reflect upon how their personal orientations and resulting behaviours about mental illness, addiction, and wellness impact their cultural, societal, and political beliefs. Critically examine mental illness and addiction as a social construct and contrast and compare assumptions of agency, normalcy, treatment, and recovery. Learn firsthand from those with mental illness, evaluate the effects of mental illness in special populations, including Indigenous people and the elderly, and apply their learning through health simulation activities.
You will gain an overview of the processes involved in assessment and evaluation. A variety of types of evaluation will be utilized in order to understand and meet the needs of learners and stakeholders. Learners explore two key aspects of managing a diverse adult learning environment. In the first section of the course, learners discover the intercultural differences in adult learning styles, preferences and educational expectations and compare these to learning in a Canadian learning environment. In the second section of the course, learners develop the capacity and competencies to recognize how diversity impacts the learning experience and develop the tools and confidence to manage and plan for the complexities that surface in such a learning environment.
Astronomy is the study of all that which is beyond the Earth. This course examines the visible features of the sky—Moon, Sun, planets, stars, constellations, meteors and galaxies. Students will learn how to ‘navigate across the night sky’ by moving from constellation to constellation in a logical and progressive manner. In addition, students will examine the content of key constellations in detail and develop skills in analyzing and explaining unique astronomical phenomena.
Issues relating to addictions and mental health are highly prevalent in Canadian society. One in five Canadians will experience a mental illness in their lifetimes. The remaining four will have a friend, family member or colleague who will experience mental illness or addiction. One in ten Canadians aged fifteen years and older report symptoms consistent with alcohol or illicit drug dependence. About 20% of people with a mental disorder have a co-occurring substance use problem. As first responders, it is critical to possess knowledge, understanding and empathy about these topics. This course will address issues relating to the development of addictions, effects, signs and symptoms and response, as well as seeking to provide a greater understanding to the differences between mental health, mental illness and mental disorders. Finally, the course will familiarize students with concurrent disorders, a term used when a person has both a substance related disorder and a mental health disorder.
This course will introduce students to the concepts of information systems from both a technology and strategic decision making perspective. Current technologies will be explored including the basics of hardware, software, architecture, networking, and mobile interfaces. The use of information in business today is critical to operate, plan, analyze and control activities. Therefore it is important for the student to understand the strategic use of information systems and the course will provide a comprehensive view of current uses. This course will provide skills and practical knowledge to apply various environmental laws and regulations such as the Environmental Protection Act, The Ontario Water Resources Act, Ont. Reg. 419 (and former Reg. 346), Ont. Reg. 347, and other related environmental legislation. With practical understanding of environmental laws, students will have the information to help protect themselves and their companies from possible litigation while at the same time help preserve the environment.
