This subject covers retaining walls, grounds, window wells, lot grading, driveways, patios, walkways, decks, balconies, stoops and steps, porches, railings, wall cladding, flashing trim, eaves, soffits, fascia, as well as exterior doors and windows. Students learn to describe the exterior wall coverings and inspect all aspects of the exterior named above.
This subject covers installed heating systems (gas and oil furnaces and hot water boilers). Emphasis is on the inspector's ability to identify the energy source, type, material, condition, and safety concerns, as well as inspecting the heating equipment.
This subject covers vent systems, flues and chimneys, as well as fireplaces, other wood heating appliances, steam and electric heating systems. Students apply knowledge of these systems to the role of home inspector. Prerequisite: OL625 Heating Inspection I

Students apply their knowledge of roofing to inspections that focus on system performance, safety concerns, and compliance with existing codes and standards.

This course extends basic engineering drafting skills to the applied principles of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Emphasis is placed on interpretation and application symbols to drawings, measurements and quality control.
This course will provide students, who has a basic knowledge of general contracting and estimating, additional understanding of tender documents for all project types and knowledge of computerized estimating and unit price control. Discover the role of the estimating team and the importance of bid management. This course will lead to the management of site, material ordering, scheduling, and the cost control process. This course provides an introduction to basic blueprint reading and common methods of construction. Students will use construction drawings to discuss topics ranging from soil evacuation to roof design. Legal concepts of building/planning codes and statutes are discussed. Students will gain a foundation of residential/commercial construction principles and codes in practice today.
Students will develop skills toward job site administration and documentation, layout, set up, surveying, supervision, and safety. Contract types and the Construction Lien Act will be discussed along with a review of the programs that are available to help in managing the job site.
