In this course, students continue to focus on a holistic approach to learning from an Anishinaabe perspective. The students continue to learn spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical connections to the well-being of the individual and cultural group of the community and land. New vocabulary is learned and applied through field trips, land and cultural activities.
In this course, students continue to examine Anishinaabe origin stories, legends and songs and their connections to the land, culture and traditional practices. Oral speaking in the language is strongly encouraged in a variety of experiential learning activities including skits, drama, plays and singing. Students, working individually and in groups, have opportunities to create their own stories and songs and present them to class. Laughter, fun, and learning from mistakes are part of the course.
In this course, students continue to have structured and informal conversations by interacting with other Anishinaabemowin speakers. Students examine audio, video and digital language learning resources and use the computer technology to create language learning development resources, lexicons with pictures, language booklets, recordings of speeches, through multiple software programs.
In this course, students are introduced to other Anishinaabe cultural ceremonies, worldviews, philosophies, identities, and socials that are common to many Indigenous communities. Students continue to develop conceptual and personal frameworks to understand the relationship of Indigenous identity to cultural, social, spiritual and personal values by utilizing the ceremonial practices.

In this course, students will conduct weight and balance of an aircraft along with appropriate documentation. Students will apply appropriate skills necessary, while performing various tasks in a hangar environment.
Students will carry out practical 'hands on' exercises in the running of aircraft piston engines and maintenance of their systems. The student will gain access to information through publications and apply this information to maintenance tasks.
Students will take hands on approach to become familiar with a helicopter and its basic components. Students will also conduct inspection and servicing along with maintenance of the drive train.
Students will examine the maintenance and servicing of gas turbine engine systems. This course will also introduce and prepare them to operate a running turbine engine.
The placement is negotiated and coordinated by the Placement Office and the Program Coordinator. The procedures and regulations pertaining to this placement will be according to the College's 'CO-OP HANDBOOK FOR STUDENTS'. During this work placement, the actual duration of which will be 420 hours, the student has the opportunity to apply his/her theory and practical skills in a full-time work situation outside of the academic environment. This will help the student in developing his/her long-term career goals. In addition to having his/her work performance evaluated by the employer, the student will complete and submit for evaluation a formal report describing the placement.
The student will practice maintenance procedures on aircraft avionics systems. Students will carry out functional tests on systems and gain familiarity with documentation and procedures that apply to these systems. Scheduled inspections and servicing of systems will be carried out.
This advanced level course has students inspecting and completing maintenance and servicing on various turbine engines and components. The student will also complete a hot section inspection on a selected turbine engine. Students will also be performing maintenance practices on propellers.
Students will complete practical hands-on projects on various aircraft systems designed to enable the student to apply developed theory. Emphasis will be placed on completing the required tasks in accordance with applicable maintenance manuals, regulations, and equipment, using safe work practices.
Students will study the foundation of sound production theory as it applies to animation. Directing voice acting and foley sound effect artists, sound recording, engineering, acoustic theory and asset management will be topics covered during the course.
The animation industry has changed considerably since the dawn of digital art, however the core concepts have stayed the same. Throughout this course students will analyze story, character design, environmental design, motion and timing. Lab exercises will help to hone mechanical skills while pre-production meetings will define the student's yearlong project.
Animation provides a storyteller with a limitless medium in which to convey compelling and entertaining ideas. This course provides the learner with a holistic understanding of the storytelling processes. Topics discussed will include creative writing, treatments, script creation, emotion, timing, acting and movement.
It is critical that animators know how an animated sequence is designed to develop a plan of execution. Pre-visualization allows the animator to see a low-resolution, rapid prototype of an animation before final execution. This course will discuss storyboarding, X-sheets, Dope sheets and 'animatics'.
Computers simply cannot replace the creative and expressive qualities demonstrated by the human hand. Drawing is the most important skill an animator can have and this course will enhance the student's ability to see, predict and produce the art requirements of their animation. Topics will include life drawing, cartooning and rotoscoping.
The Canadian animation industry requires a very unique approach to business management and marketing. This course will help prepare the student to enter the animation space with the confidence needed to generate concise proposals that include ethical pricing, strong branding and accurate time requirements. Upon completion, the student will be stronger in the areas of entrepreneurship, media management and sales.
Students will execute an animated major project using industry workflow and methodology and processes while investigating digital animation tools. Topics will include animation skill building, the animation pipeline and project management. In class demonstrations will expose the student to 3D workflow, character modeling and rigging, digital sculpture, particle systems and rendering.
This course will be a continuation of Illustration for Animation II, moving the student into the production of art assets that can be utilized in a major animated production. Topics include colour theory, painting, life drawing, cartooning and storyboarding.
This course will be a continuation of Sound Production I. Students will enter the sound recording environment to produce voice acting and sound effects for their animation major project. Topics covered will include voice acting, sound effect production, digital recording workflow, and post-production techniques.
Visual effects allow an animator to create effective illusions that enhance the overall animation experience. Topics covered will include particle systems, volumetric systems, rotoscoping, motion tracking, chroma key techniques, camera tracking, colour grading and compositing.
The animation pipeline often requires the consistent application and management of colour. This course will focus on the creation of colour keys, advanced colour theory, digital colouring and grading.
In this course, the learner will expand on their basic and advanced life support knowledge. Emphasis will be placed on pathophysiology, advanced assessment, and diagnostics. The learner will develop advanced assessments and critical thinking which will allow them to integrate treatment plans based on patient presentations.
In this course, the learner will demonstrate an advanced assessment approach and intervention skills required to perform as an advanced care paramedic. The learner will develop clinical decision-making skills through various simulated scenarios in a controlled, lab-class setting.
In this course, the learner will perform, and master skills considered to be within the scope of practice of an advanced care paramedic. This course will involve precise evaluation of each advanced life support skill to ensure the learner can perform skills at a competent advanced care level.
In this course, the learner will build upon the existing knowledge base from their primary care paramedic education. This includes basic and advanced theories of pharmacology, which encompasses but is not limited to, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, medical math calculation/conversions and all pharmacological treatments used by advanced care paramedics. There will be an emphasis on meeting the standards as outlined in the most current version of the Ontario Provincial Medical Directives.
In this course, the learner will evaluate research evidence and apply it to paramedicine practice. Research findings will be presented in a variety of different formats, using technology, visual, verbal, practical and written format. Emphasis will be placed on the critical thinking assessments and involve producing an independent study that is research based.
In this course, emphasis will be placed on the newly acquired responsibilities of assessing, managing, and transporting patients in emergent situations. The learner will develop diverse assessment techniques and learn to modify their approach based on various patient presentations including, but not limited to, neonatal, pediatric, adult, and special patient populations.
In this course, the learner is required to demonstrate advanced assessments and intervention skills. Critical thinking will allow for differential diagnosis while formulating a treatment plan. This includes, but is not limited to, transport decisions, communication with Base Hospital physicians, hospital staff, establishing a patient's chief complaints and perform continuous assessment and continued intervention plans at the advanced care paramedic level. The expectation is that the learner will be able to formulate a plan of care based upon the knowledge acquired in Semester 1 and Semester 2. This course is skill and simulation based.
Advanced Care Documentation and Professional Standards
In this course, the learner will develop an understanding for professional and medical-legal issues unique to the advanced care paramedic. Roles and responsibilities of the advanced care paramedic will be discussed as they pertain to moral, legal and ethical issues. This will include professional crew resource management communication as well as advanced care documentation standards.
In this course, the learner will complete clinical rotations in various patient care settings mainly acute care hospital. The learner will be required to complete clinical competencies while being overseen by various health care professions, including, but not limited to, physicians, registered nurse, respiratory therapists, and midwives.
In this course, the learner will perform, and master skills considered in the scope of practice for an advanced care paramedic. This course involves precise evaluation of each advanced life support skill as it pertains to obstetrical, neonatal, pediatrics and special patient populations. The learner will also have to demonstrate skills from AP 192 Advanced Skills Lab I.
In this course, the learner will apply knowledge and skills obtained throughout all previous educational courses for the advanced care paramedic. The advanced care paramedic learner will practice under the supervision of an advanced care paramedic preceptor. A demonstration of competence as outlined in the NOCP competency profile for the paramedic practitioner. The requirement for field placement completion is 432 hours or more depending on the competencies that are achieved. This must take place in an urban paramedic service deemed to be acceptable by the Confederation College Advanced Care Paramedic Program Coordinator.
The course examines through a culturally safe, anti-racist, and anti-discriminatory lens concepts and theories required of the Registered Nurse to provide culturally appropriate care to Indigenous people. Through self-reflection on the positionality of the Registered Nurse in the Code of Ethics and professional responsibilities to respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's Calls to Action, the learner will foster an understanding of colonization and cultural genocide and its impact on Indigenous people in Canada. The learner will obtain and apply knowledge of core concepts in Indigenous culture, worldviews, and ways of knowing in meeting the wholistic needs of Indigenous people. Through analyzing historical and contemporary issues impacting Indigenous people, the learner will foster and devise leadership skills in advocating for Indigenous people in their future role as Registered Nurses.
This course explores the systematic changes and continuities that occur in people from birth to death. The interrelationship of psychological, cognitive and psychosocial development will help inform understanding of the human experience. Nature-Nurture, one of the central issues in the study of development, will be highlighted throughout the course to understand the interaction between cultural, social and historical impacts and biological maturation. In addition, to studying human development in a systematic way, students will gain a personal understanding of their own lives in the context of lifespan development.
This course provides an introduction to how knowledge is produced, organized and assessed in the Information Age. With an emphasis on critical thinking, students will become aware of the influences of various media and learn how to locate and evaluate sources including print, electronic, audio and video sources - especially the Internet. Students will also learn how to make the best use of the vast array of information available when conducting research, as well as how to organize and present various types of information in a variety of contexts.

Students will be introduced to several topics prevalent to our region and be actively involved in examining the impact of lifestyle choices upon their own health status.

The student will be able to understand the importance of delivering service excellence to the customer, the employer and themselves. The focus will be on practicing techniques that strengthen these relationships, preparing for, and securing workplace and professional success.
This course provides students with opportunities to develop the writing skills necessary to present ideas and information in concise, well-organized paragraphs and essays. Within an active workshop environment, students develop an understanding of writing as a multi-stage process with an emphasis on developing prewriting, revising, and editing strategies. Through exposure to a range of creative writing activities, students are invited both to increase their appreciation of different writing styles and to develop their own unique writing voices. An exploration of essential grammar, spelling, and mechanics promotes independent proofreading skills; in addition, students extend their word power through a range of vocabulary building exercises.
Expression and Voice: Reading Listening and Speaking Skills I
This course promotes the development and synthesis of effective listening, speaking, and reading skills. Through exposure to a diverse range of reading sources, students are encouraged to develop specific reading sub-skills and to extend their reading comprehension, critical-reading, and media-literacy skills. A selection of short stories, essays, and poetry by contemporary Aboriginal writers complements the reading component of the course with current Aboriginal issues and concerns providing a focal point for various reading assignments and in-class discussions. Students are exposed to a range of public-speaking techniques and are provided opportunities to make in-class presentations.
This course is intended as a review, consolidation, and extension of essential mathematical skills. Students will have opportunities to apply mathematical theories to the world around them and will be encouraged to explore mathematics using a variety of current data. Links to appropriate Internet addresses will provide students with the opportunity to extend applications of learned mathematical skills and concepts. Students will be encouraged to discern patterns, practice problems, think critically, and build on previous learning.
Empowerment and Learning: Personal Management and Critical Thinking Skills
This course assists students in developing effective self-management strategies and techniques; topics ranging from budgeting and time management to interpersonal communications and personal wellness are explored within a context of personal development and self-advocacy. In addition, students are presented with a variety of activities intended to develop their critical-thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. The course content may be presented through a blend of instructional methods, including lecture, internet, discussion, independent study, audio/video conferencing and videotape
Empowerment and Learning: Research and Study Skills Career Planning I
This course provides students with opportunities to develop the learning skills necessary to succeed in future post-secondary studies. Working within a framework of goal-directed learning and self-evaluation, students are encouraged to become active participants in the learning process and, ultimately, to become empowered, independent learners. Practical research and study skills are enhanced in a positive, student-centered, learning environment. Extensive, culturally relevant, career exploration and career planning exercises and activities provide a solid basis for informed career decision-making in the future.
The supervised study lab provides students with opportunities to develop consistent work and study habits. Working within a supportive learning environment, students are encouraged to apply and consolidate the time management and research and study skills covered in AT 004 and AT 005. Students identify and prioritize individual learning needs and tasks, complete course assignments, and utilize available academic support. Through practical applications, students are encouraged to develop both independent learning and study group strategies and to extend their understanding of meta-cognition and individual cognitive styles.
Building on strategies developed in AT 001, this course provides students with opportunities to extend and consolidate their writing skills with an emphasis on developing the specific sub-skills needed to prepare effective essays and research papers. Research strategies and research topics explored in AT 204 provide the framework for formal essay and research writing assignments; students develop an understanding of organizational patterns in essays, the steps involved in preparing research papers, and guidelines for formatting manuscripts. Students continue to extend their understanding of prewriting, revising, and editing strategies and are encouraged to develop a cohesive approach to writing assignments. An exploration of essential grammar, spelling, and mechanics continues to promote the development of independent proofreading skills while extensive word-building exercises provide students with opportunities to expand their vocabulary.

Building on concepts explored in AT 002, this course provides students with opportunities to apply and extend their listening, speaking, and reading skills. An emphasis is placed on developing a cohesive understanding of specific reading sub-skills, the process of reading, and the role of the critical reader. Students develop an increased awareness of the relationship between main ideas and details, the inferential level of reading, and methods for analyzing purpose and tone; in addition, students develop specific strategies for understanding and evaluating a range of reading materials including college texts, newspapers, magazines and the Internet. Students explore a variety of public speaking techniques and are encouraged to develop their individual and group oral presentation skills. The study of a selected, culturally relevant novel complements the reading component of this course.

This course provides students with opportunities to consolidate and extend the research and study skills necessary to succeed in future post-secondary programs; building on skills covered in AT 005, this course emphasizes the development of more advanced research techniques and strategies. Through an exploration of culturally relevant research topics, students are encouraged to develop an effective personal research strategy and to utilize a range of sources when conducting research. Students continue to investigate various career options with a focus on identifying and analyzing opportunities specific to issues of regional and community development. A portion of the students' second semester is devoted to previewing a post-secondary program of their choice.

This course presents an overview of the Ontario Building Code, the municipal building by-law and the municipal zoning by-law. Emphasis is given to Part 9 Housing and Small Buildings. The course will provide a basic understanding and working knowledge of the regulations that apply to the construction of buildings in Ontario.
This course is designed to familiarize the student with basic architectural design procedures, the application of building code requirements and application of municipal codes, by-laws and regulations. The student will prepare preliminary and final set of presentation design drawings for a single family residence.The student will also provide an architectural model of the design and make a verbal presentation of the design to the 'client'.
This course will provide the student with the ability to use discipline-specific software for architectural design. Revit for Architecture is used by architectural designers to increase productivity and competitiveness. The transition between major phases in the design process can be made without interruption. Conceptual design, design development, and the production of construction documents are streamlined by re-using information and by applying features designed specifically for this process.
