In this course, the students will have the opportunity to assess tourism operations in a foreign destination. The student will experience the traditional elements of travel while developing a broad understanding of cultural knowledge sensitivity and awareness of another ethnic group. Due to the current pandemic, travel may be restricted to a Canadian destination. Voluntourism a rapidly growing trend that combines volunteering with travel, may be introduced if applicable to the chosen destination. If the student is not able to participate in this International field placement, there is a work placement alternative in TT436.
In this course, students will be introduced to the theory and practice of guiding for adventure tourism and related outdoor recreational activities. Topics discussed will include group dynamics, risk management, leadership theory and communication. Students will examine a variety of adventure tourism opportunities across Canada. Earning a certification in a discipline of guiding is required for this course.
Today’s flight attendants are highly trained, highly skilled and focus on safety as the core of their job function. The student will develop career-related skills, knowledge and behaviours to effectively perform a variety of functions required in providing passenger safety and service as they work in the airline industry. The student will also acquire Smart Serve Certification. This course will be combined with the highly respected and internationally recognized Inflight Institute.com online Flight Attendant Training School where Certification will be earned.
If the student is not able to partake in the Study Abroad Field Experience, as an alternative they will be required to complete a field placement component in a tourism related position which will enable the student to explore their chosen field and apply the knowledge and skills developed in school in a professional environment. These non-paid positions may include travel operations, airlines, hotel and resort services, sales, retail, event and trade shows, and exceptional customer service positions, among others. Students are responsible for obtaining their own placement. This field placement consists of 40 hours.
In this course, the student will examine the connections between the world's diverse peoples and complex physical geographic environments. A wide range of themes will be covered related to the study of human geography as well as a global overview of various Indigenous peoples, communities and cultures around the world. Patterns of language, religion, art, music, population, migration and economic activities will also be explored and how they relate to the areas in which people live.

Students who achieve the learning outcomes will be able to write an effective paragraph, read and understand a variety of simple texts and documents including short articles and forms, and use simple computer applications including email to complete their work.

This course is designed to help students develop more advanced writing, reading comprehension, and computer skills. Students who achieve the learnining outcomes will be able to write an effective 17-paragraph research essay, read and analyse a variety of complex texts and documents including books, online journal articles, workplace documents, and reviews, and use more advanced computer applications to complete their work. NOTE: This course is considered equivalent to CS007.
This course exposes the students to the basic theory and practice of arc welding. The course covers safe use and care of equipment, various joints and weld types in all positions. Electrode application and classification is explained and practical welding exercises are performed.
This course identifies and interprets all line types and distinguishes sectional and auxiliary views. The student will be able to interpret welding symbols, abbreviations, notes, dimensioning techniques; conduct practical exercises in component sketching; and read weldment blueprints.
This course has 2 main objectives; the first is to develop techniques and practices using 6010 and 7018 electrodes and the second is to develop uphand techniques using the pipe to plate exercise.
This course exposes the students to the beginning of the trade, basic hand tools all the way to modern power tools. Shop safety covering all aspects of the shop and its equipment. All shop practices and procedures also including knots and rope ties.
This course introduces students to the safe handling and use of potentially dangerous equipment. The student gains an understanding of the construction, operating principles, and applications of oxy-acetylene welding and cutting equipment. Correct operating techniques in fusion welding, brazing and cutting will be achieved.
In this course, the student will identify the different welding procedures for T-joints in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions. Welding exercises are demonstrated using 6010-11 and 7018 electrodes in these positions and specific safety precautions for overhead welding are addressed.
This course exposes the student to the basic theory and practices of semi-automatic and GTAW welding. The course covers construction, safety, filler metal and gas selection, equipment set-up and operation. Practical experience will be gained.

This course identifies the different chemical and physical properties of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, demonstrates the effects of welding on loose material structures, defines the material classification system and discusses weldment distortion and control techniques.
This course defines C.W.B. welding specifications and describes procedures and techniques using 7018 electrodes. Visual weld checking techniques and testing procedures are also demonstrated.
