Overview
Hiring a Co-op student is a great way to access some of northwestern Ontario’s top talent and future leaders; deliver a cost-effective way to address short-term staffing needs including vacation time and special projects, while evaluating potential employees for succession planning; increase your organization’s profile on campus with students, faculty, and applied research opportunities.

Paid Work Terms
Co-op is a paid work term. Should the employer require support determining a fair wage, Co-op & Work Placement Staff are equipped to provided some guidance and typical salary ranges for positions being considered.
Responsibilities of the Employer
- Submit a job description outlining start/end date; hours of work; duties and responsibilities, salary, location, etc. You may use our Job Description temple(opens in new window) or submit your own via email.
- Undertake the recruitment process (screening and shortlisting, interview, selection and offer)
- Provide the student with a “full-time” (minimum 35 hours per week) program-related work term opportunity for the required number of weeks;
- Complete the EMPLOYER WORK TERM AGREEMENT sent to you through our office and return to co-op@confederationcollege.ca prior to the commencement of the student’s work term;
- Provide the student with a new hire orientation that will include all applicable organizational policies, procedures and Code of Conduct work expectations;
- Provide leadership and guidance throughout the work experience;
- Paid Work Terms provide Health and Safety orientation/training, supervision and Workplace Safety Insurance coverage or private accident insurance;
- Advise the Co-op Education Specialist at (807) 473-3708 as early as possible, of any on-the-job occurrences i.e. accident/injury, etc.;
- Complete and return a brief Mid-term Evaluation and, prior to the completion of the work term, a Student Performance Evaluation. Evaluation forms will be provided by the College.
Employer Forms
EMPLOYER CO-OP WORK TERM AGREEMENT: Completed by the Employer and returned to the college, prior to the commencement of work. Earliest work start date, first week of May;

STUDENT FINAL PERFORMANCE EVALUATION (graded): Upon receiving the above work term agreement, this document will be sent out through the Co-op Office to the Employer. Traditionally this occurs in August, unless a student leaves the workplace earlier than specified on the Work Term Agreement.
Post a Job - 3 Easy Steps
Step 1: Post-a-Position
- Decide on the Co-op Program you wish to recruit from.
- For best selection of candidates post early.
- Accept postings September through to March 31, for the May to August Co-op work term.
- Send your completed Job Description to us at co-op@confederationcollege.ca
- Joining us on campus for “Employer in the House”? Send us your posting in advance of your visit.

Step 2: Interview Applicants
- Following the application deadline date of your job posting select the candidate(s) you wish to interview.
- Student Career Services would be happy to assist you in arranging your interviews on campus.
Step 3: Make an Offer
- Once we have been notified that an offer has been made and accepted the Employer Work Term Agreement will be sent to you for your address, prior to the commencement of the work term.

How can I post a CO-OP work term opportunity?

Is there any cost to hiring Confederation Co-op students?
Yes and no.
- Co-op programs are temporary – full time, paid work terms, with the responsibility of the workplace safety insurance being that of the employer.
- We do not charge service fees to employers for recruitment of our students or graduates.
I would like to interview students on campus, is this possible?
Yes. If you would like to interview Co-op students who have applied for positions you posted with us, call us at (807) 473-3708 and we will help you arrange this, including: room bookings, notify students of their interview times and location and any preparatory information required for the interview.
Am I responsible for collecting all student applications or will Student Career Services address this?
Generally yes.
In the case of a “co-op work term” students apply directly to the employer as specified on the job posting we receive. If you would like us to collect applications on your behalf, please call or email us at: (807) 473-3708, co-op@confederationcollege.ca.
Outside of providing a co-op am I able to post graduate opportunities under the Student Career Services umbrella?
Yes.
Within many (not all) of our co-op programs there is an opportunity to hire a student immediately following their required work term. Additionally, in the event you have employment opportunities available for any of the following Co-op Programs, we would be happy to promote these out to our recent graduates and alumni.
