Below are important steps to follow once you register for an OntarioLearn course(opens in new window):

Review your two Welcome Emails

Two welcome emails are sent to registered students starting four weeks prior to the course start date. One welcome email is sent to the student's personal email address with instructions on how to login to the Confederation College portal and email. Another welcome email with course start and important information is sent to a student's Confederation College email address. It is important that students access their Confederation College email to review the course information email.

Purchase any required textbooks and check your computer software

Textbook information can be found below. Any required textbooks should be ordered as soon as possible to ensure it arrives close to the course start date. Check our technical requirements page to see if your computer is ready. Any additional or specific computer software requirements are described in the course description in the course catalogue.

Login to your OntarioLearn account

An email with an OntarioLearn account(opens in new window) password will be sent to your Confederation College email address when the OntarioLearn account has been activated. OntarioLearn account passwords are sent 5 days before the official course start date and 24-48 hours after an account has been activated. Students will not see their course in the OntarioLearn account before the start date of the course. If you have registered after the start date, you will receive an email when your OntarioLearn account has been activated. If you experience difficulties logging into the course, please contact Online Learning at (807) 473-3888 or onlinelearning@confederationcollege.ca. Alternatively, you may contact OntarioLearn’s Help Center(opens in new window).

Once you have successfully logged into OntarioLearn, review the information and launch your course.

Textbooks/Materials

It is the responsibility of the student to obtain the required course text/materials by the start date of the course, unless indicated otherwise. If you are unsuccessful in obtaining your textbook, please email Online Learning at Confederation College immediately – onlinelearning@confederationcollege.ca. Tuition refunds will not be made if the student does not obtain the textbook in due time for the course and the withdrawal date has passed.

Textbooks may be purchased from any source. We recommend searching the following website to find your textbooks: textnet.ca(opens in new window). Please be sure to carefully review the information on the textbook list and ensure that the textbook edition and author matches what is found on the textbook list. We recommend leaving textbook packages sealed until the textbook information can be confirmed in the course on the course start date.

Course Equivalencies

Below is a link to the course equivalencies list of online courses that have received Dean’s approval for post-secondary course equivalency. These online courses can be taken in place of the listed Confederation College course. Please be sure to adhere to directions in the "Comments" section of the chart if anything is listed beside the course you are looking to take.

Online Learning makes available over 450 online courses to Confederation College students through our membership in the OntarioLearn college consortium. Should you wish to discuss the possibility of additional post-secondary course equivalencies for Online Learning courses not listed here, please contact the Online Learning Coordinator at onlinelearning@confederationcollege.ca for a copy of the course outline to discuss with your program coordinator. Please note: the approval process can be a lengthy one. Please be sure to submit your request at least three weeks before the semester start date.

OntarioLearn FAQ for Current Students

Is my OntarioLearn course on my Confederation College portal?

No. You will have two separate accounts - your OntarioLearn account and your Confederation College portal account. It is important that you remember your login and passwords for both accounts. OntarioLearn is where your course will be located. The Confederation College portal is where you will find your Confederation College email, final grade(s), academic records and other important Confederation College information.

Where will I find my OntarioLearn username and password information?

Your OntarioLearn username is your Confederation College email address (including @confederationcollege.ca). Your OntarioLearn password information will be emailed to your Confederation College email account 5 days prior to the course start. If you have registered after the course start date, the password information will be emailed to you when your OntarioLearn account has been activated.

Why is my OntarioLearn user ID and password showing as invalid?

Ensure that you are using your full Confederation College email address, including the @confederationcollege.ca, as your username and the unique OntarioLearn password that was sent to your Confederation College inbox. OntarioLearn account passwords are sent 5 days prior to the start date. If you have registered after the course start date, your OntarioLearn account password will be sent within a 24 to 48 hours of your account activation.

Where do I go if I need help with my online course?

Your course facilitator should be your first contact. You can post a message to your facilitator in the general discussion area or send her/him a personal email. If you require technical assistance, please contact the OntarioLearn Technical Support Helpdesk. Any administrative questions can be directed to onlinelearning@confederationcollege.ca

Can I apply for an extension if I need one?

No. Online courses have set start and end dates, no extensions are granted.

A course I want to take has a pre-requisite. Do I have to take it?

In most cases, the pre-requisite will be required. However, if you believe you have relevant knowledge and skills to take the advanced level course, you may be exempted from taking the pre-requisite. For more information, please email onlinelearning@confederationcollege.ca. Please note, if you decide to take the advanced level course without taking the pre-requisite, you do so at your own risk.

Where do I write my exams?

OntarioLearn course exams are completed online through the course. All exam information will be provided in the course. The course facilitator will be able to answer any specific exam questions.

Where do I find my final grade?

Final grades are posted 2 weeks after the official end date of a course and can be found on Confederation College’s Banner Information System. Below are the instructions how to access Banner and find your grades. If you require an official transcript you may request one by completing a transcript request form.

  • Log in to the Confederation College Portal(opens in new window)
  • Click “Launchpad” on the left menu
  • Select “Banner Information System” from the left menu
  • Click “Student Services”
  • Click “Student Records”
  • Click “Academic Transcript”
  • Click “Submit” – All courses that you have taken will display on this screen along with grades.
