We have been generally very pleased by the caliber of the student placements we took on from the IMD program. I received unsolicited positive feedback from their coworkers and the quality of their work products was high. We provided three third-year students with work placements and two were excellent. One of these went on to full-time employment elsewhere, while the other we hired to assist with out marketing and digital presence.
Biggest Challenges Encountered
Our placements encountered difficulties in the technical realm where integrating with other systems was required while at the same time maintaining continuity of our branding and user experience.
Advice for Students
- It is essential in our field that a prospective employee has time management and self organization skills. You also need to have the ability to think independently and proactively.
- Students would also be well served if they gained greater awareness regarding the tech companies that are located in Thunder Bay and in our region, and have some idea of what they do.
