Confederation College has given me the education to help me succeed. It taught me how to think, do research and helped me develop new skills ...
My Funny Story
In first year, I did not know English very well. I knew math from Poland and there was lots of math so I knew how to solve a question, but I had trouble knowing what question they were asking me to solve :)
My Job Responsibilities
I'm responsible for all automation in the plant, communication between devices, machine performance optimization, all new technologies introduction and support of the IT and plant network systems.
My Advice to Others
Don't specialize too much, keep your mind open. Every class may help you solve issues later on because you tend to remember only about 20% of the content, however this is may be enough information to give you idea what is happening so you can dig into it and get the necessary details to resolve the problem.
My Impression of the Job Market
It is very hard to find techs knowing more than one aspect of the automation. Knowing just PLC's will not get you the job. you need to know networking, radio communication, computers, cabling etc. We are constantly looking for new techs because there is not enough of them on the market.
After graduation, I was not unemployed even for 1 day and currently I'm working for a third employer since I graduated.
