Responsible AI at Confederation College

Confederation College responsibly integrates artificial intelligence to support and strengthen how we learn, work, and serve our communities while honoring Indigenous knowledge, upholding data sovereignty, and preparing our students and staff to thrive in an AI-enabled world.

Ethical considerations describe the broader risks that AI introduces for the College and the communities it serves. They are areas of ongoing attention that help faculty, staff, and students judge when and how to use AI, and to recognize consequences that may not be visible in everyday use.

Responsible AI use in the classroom means giving faculty the clarity, tools, and support to integrate AI thoughtfully, so it strengthens learning outcomes, academic integrity, and student-instructor relationships rather than undermining them.

Responsible AI use as a student means using AI to support and strengthen your learning, not to replace it, while staying transparent about how you use it, following your instructor's guidelines, and taking full ownership of the accuracy and integrity of everything you submit.

Understanding AI’s environmental impact means giving our community clear, evidence-based context on the energy, water, and emissions behind the tools they use, so they can make informed choices and see that AI’s costs are small for an individual user, but growing globally and felt most in the communities that host the infrastructure.
