Role & Responsibilities

Tanis is a Paramedic Educator in the Advanced Care Paramedic program at Confederation College, teaching Primary Care Paramedics as they advance into the ACP role. Responsibilities include delivering theoretical instruction, running lab and simulation sessions, evaluating clinical and practical skills, and supporting students through their field placements. Drawing on 28 years of urban road experience as a practicing paramedic, Tanis brings real-world context to advanced skills, pharmacology, and critical patient care, helping students bridge classroom learning with the realities of the job

Professional Background

Tanis brings 28 years of professional experience as a paramedic in an urban service and currently practices as an Advanced Care Paramedic. Throughout her career, Tanis has developed deep expertise in advanced patient care, critical and emergent decision-making, and advanced pharmacology and skills within the ACP scope of practice. In addition to her clinical work, Tanis is currently completing a degree in Paramedicine through Charles Sturt University, further strengthening the academic foundation she brings to teaching. Her combination of extensive road experience and ongoing academic development allows her to connect theory with real-world practice, giving students both the clinical grounding and critical thinking skills needed to succeed as Advanced Care Paramedics.

Teaching

Tanis has taught full-time for 10 years in the Paramedicine program at Confederation College, delivering both theory and lab/skills-based instruction. Her role spans the classroom, skills labs, and simulation environments, giving students a well-rounded blend of foundational knowledge and hands-on practice. Tanis also serves as an examiner, evaluating student competency in both practical skills and clinical decision-making to ensure readiness for the field. Her teaching approach draws on 28 years of urban road experience as an Advanced Care Paramedic, allowing her to bring real-world scenarios into the classroom and lab.
