Role & Responsibilities

As Professor and Coordinator of the Social Service Worker program at Confederation College, Rich Tatebe supports students through relational-teaching, authenticity and program leadership. He is committed to creating a supportive learning environment where students can build confidence, develop professional skills, and grow into compassionate and authentic helping professionals

Professional Background

Rich has been a Social Work for the past 30 years. For the past 2o years, he has been a faculty member and the Coordinator of the Social Service Worker Program at Confederation College. As a faculty member, has been the awarded the Educator of the Year by the Ontario College of Social Service Workers; Board of Governors, Employee Award of Excellence at Confederation College & Award of Excellence, Professor by the National Institute of Staff & Organizational Development (NISOD)

Teaching

Richard’s teaching approach is grounded in authenticity, relationship, and reflection. Drawing from over 30 years of frontline experience in mental health, addictions, trauma, psychotherapy and men/masculinity, helping students connect theory to real-world practice.

Creative Work, Research, or Industry Experience

passion has been focused on overturning oppression in the areas of substance abuse, adult and children's mental health, gender inequalities through psychotherapy and education. Developing and facilitating trauma-informed services in Indigenous schools and communities, Dads parenting groups and literature, emotionally responsive educational services.
