What Is Part-Time OSAP?

You’re considered part-time for OSAP if your course load is between 20% and 59% of a full course load. Your course load is calculated based on the current semester of the program you are enrolled in. Program and course information can be found here(opens in new window).

Eligibility Requirements for Part-Time OSAP

• Enrolled in 20-59% of a full-time course load
• Program leads to a certificate, degree, or diploma
• Study period must be between 4 and 52 weeks in length
• Program must be approved for Full-Time OSAP

Application Process for Part-Time OSAP

Applications must be completed online via the OSAP Portal(opens in new window). You should apply 6–8 weeks before your classes begin and no later than 60 days before the end of your study period. The minimum study period for Part-Time OSAP is 4 weeks, so it is possible for the application and supporting documentation deadlines to be prior to the start of the study period. Once you have submitted your application and it has been reviewed by Financial Aid, you will be provided with a funding estimate. Students with a permanent disability and a course load equal to or greater than 40% are eligible to apply for full-time OSAP.

Steps:

1. Submit a completed application and all required documentation.
2. Pay and register for part-time classes – your Student Success Advisor can assist with registration. If upfront payment is a barrier, please let us know at financialaid@confederationcollege.ca so we can discuss alternatives.
3. OSAP application, documentation, and enrollment are reviewed by Financial Aid.
4. If approved, enrollment is confirmed by Financial Aid to initiate the release of any eligible funding according to the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC) processing timelines.

Paying for Part-Time OSAP

The majority of students pay for courses up front. An assessment on funding can only be run if we know what course(s) you will be taking.

Dropping from Full-Time Studies to Part-Time

If a student with a full-time OSAP application drops to part-time studies after receiving the first and/or second installment, the student cannot be approved for part-time OSAP until after the standard end date of the term(s) for which full-time OSAP was issued. The student is not required to return the full amount of full-time OSAP that they received for that term to be eligible for part-time OSAP.

Maximum Part-Time Funding(opens in new window)

Until the end of the 2025 to 2026 school year, you could receive up to $2,520 per year. The amount of the grant will not be more than your assessed need. For example, if you have an assessed need of $1,200, you will receive a $1,200 grant. The school year runs from August 1 to July 31.

Academic Progress

If the student does not successfully complete all courses in their part-time study period, they are not eligible for further part-time funding unless they successfully complete at least one term of self-funded full- or part-time studies.
