Peer Tutoring
We offer individual attention through our Peer Tutoring service. Whether students need help reviewing class notes and textbook materials, or preparing for tests, our peer tutors can help.
Tutor/Tutee Application Forms
I need a tutor (Peer Tutee Application Form)
Currently enrolled students are eligible for tutoring services. The maximum number of peer tutoring hours a tutee can receive is 2 hours per week for one subject or 3 hours per week for two or more subjects. Before applying, we ask that you:
- Attend classes regularly
- Access other means of assistance (i.e. tutorials offered by the Professor, help sessions offered at the Tutoring Office)
- Discuss your difficulties with your professor
If you have taken all these steps and still want a tutor, please apply below.
If you have any questions, or need assistance completing the application, please contact tutoring@confederationcollege.ca or call the Tutoring Office at (807) 473-3894.
I want to be a tutor (Peer Tutor Application Form)
Peer Tutors are students who provide tutoring help to their peers. Peer Tutors earn extra money while they improve their own communication skills and build their resume.
Tutors Must:
- Have an A in the subject
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Have knowledge of the subject content and the ability to communicate the same
- Be punctual and responsible
- Be willing to participate in a brief orientation on tutoring procedures with the Tutoring Office
To apply to become a Peer Tutor, please complete this webform.
My student needs a tutor
Peer Tutoring is offered as a support service and not as a substitute for regular classroom instruction. Students who receive tutoring services (tutees) are allowed a maximum of three hours of tutoring a week.
If you would like to explore tutoring options for your students or discuss a specific situation, please reach out to the Tutoring Officer at tutoring@confederationcollege.ca, phone extension 3894, or by booking an appointment here(opens in new window).
If you are already discussing the need for a tutor with your student, please ask them to complete the Peer Tutee Application Form.
I’d Like to Recommend My Student as a Tutor
Students who become peer tutors must have demonstrated a strong understanding of the course content.
Your signature is required on the application for any potential tutor and verifies that the tutor:
- has an "A" in the subject they wish to tutor
- has an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
- can communicate course material to others
- has strong interpersonal skills
The Tutoring Office encourages faculty to recommend qualified students to become Peer Tutors and will sometimes contact you for any potential recommendations when we’ve had a request for tutoring. If you are aware of a need for tutoring in your class(es), please reach out to us to begin the process.
The majority of our tutors have already received an A in the courses that they tutor and have been recommended by the professor. In addition, they receive orientation and training in ways to help students (tutees) improve. They won't do a student's homework, but they will show the student how to be their own best resource. Additionally, peer tutors earn extra money while they improve their own communication skills and build their resumes.
In addition, Confederation College also offers a Professional Tutoring service available on a "drop-in" basis.
Location
The Tutoring Office is located in Room 153F in the Shuniah Building, inside Student Success.
