I found my voice at Confederation College. I had some good times and difficult times, but here is where I learned to speak up for myself and where I learned to have those difficult and sometimes uncomfortable conversations. It's one of the most important lessons I've learned and one I'll take with me. Speak up and do it respectfully.
How and Why I Chose Confederation College
In 2016, I graduated from KKETS ASAP Program with Matawa. I started there in 2015 with only a grade 9 education level. With their help and guidance I obtained my secondary school diploma and applied for college.
I chose to continue my education because I have 3 children and I wanted to provide them with everything I possibly could - opportunity and a better life. I wanted to be someone they could look up to and be proud of. I had also always dreamed of furthering my education and getting my license by the time I was 30 years old and now I'm 30 and have just graduated. I also now have my G license and a van to chauffeur my kids in.
I chose Confederation College because it seemed like the right place for me to go and I was encouraged by many (my First Nation, my family and KKETS) to pursue my dreams. I'm very glad I did it because I couldn't be more grateful for all of the support I received and the friends I have made.
What I Liked Most About Confederation College & Thunder Bay
What I liked most about the College was the Professors that cared, the Program Coordinators, the students, the support staff, the Student Success Center, the Information Hub, the Library, the new Wellness Centre ... wait am I supposed to only pick one thing I liked most?
What I Liked Most About Thunder Bay and/or Canada
What I liked most about Thunder Bay is the sense of community and kindness that people show to one another ... most days. I have had a few bad experiences in Thunder Bay, but there are so many good people here that I don't let the bad reputation Thunder Bay has been labeled with get in the way of me seeing that.

They encouraged and supported me and made me believe I could do it even when I thought I couldn't.

I would like to be an HR professional and help people in any way I can.

My Advice to Future Students Thinking About Attending Confederation College
Think about what you would enjoy doing and find the program that will help you get there and just apply. Be prepared to put some work in! Don't come into this if you aren't willing to commit to studying and going to class. If you're lost, ask questions and ask for help.
Teachers Who Made a Difference in My Learning
There were a number of professors who really cared and it showed. Their dedication to my learning helped encourage me to try my best. It really matters when a professor puts in the same effort they expect from their students.
