Without the excellent support and encouragement from the faculty of the Business Administration - Accounting program I would never have had the opportunities that have been made available to myself. The program is rewarding for employment purposes (majority of classmates are also employed), or as a stepping stone to further education (some have also gone on to University/CPA).

Both Helen Carr (retired) and Alain Gosselin provided encouragement that I would be able to go farther than my original plan of a two-year diploma. Due to their support I have graduated from the 3-year Business Administration - Accounting program and have since gone through the Lakehead University transfer program and attained my HBcomm in accounting, a Masters in Management Science and am currently attending the graduate diploma in accounting as the first step towards my CPA designation. As well I was hired from Cheadles LLP after my second year at the college and have been working there since.

Accounting Clerk at Cheadles LLP - Responsible for billings, A/R, A/P, bank reconciliations, journal entries, some financial reporting and other administrative tasks.

My Advice for Someone Considering this Program or Career Path
I would highly recommend the college for any educational path, and if you have an interest in accounting, number crunching, and organizational skills accounting is the field for you. It even helps you for administrative jobs that are not focused on accounting, as a manager for example. The general business courses also help to provide a well-rounded business education that can bring more opportunities than just accounting.

My Sense of the Current Job Market Conditions in my Field of Work
Every business needs someone to do the bookkeeping/accounting work, so there are always jobs available. There are statistics from the government that demand for accountants will be increasing with the retirement of the baby boomer generation, and there is currently a shortage of people entering the accounting field.

Confederation college helped me set and achieve goals that I never had imagined possible. They instilled a fascination with learning that I had not experienced prior to attending, and I hope stays with me for the rest of my life.
