My name is Kerstin Louttit and I am a graduate Practical Nurse, graduating from the Practical Nursing Program at Confederation College.
I am so excited to have accepted a permanent full time position at the extended care unit with the Sioux Lookout, Meno Ya Win Health Centre.
I started my journey in the health care profession in 2019 as a Personal Support Worker, I then decided to continue into the Practical Nursing Program. Working in a rural and remote community such as Sioux Lookout, is something very important to me, as I have always made it a goal of mine to provide health care to smaller and more remote populations, where adequate healthcare may be harder to access. As an Indigenous youth, it is a privilege to be starting my career as a nurse in a hospital that makes it their goal to provide holistic care to all populations including many First Nation communities in the area.
Although studying nursing during a pandemic was hectic and even stressful, this year was even more crazy for me for many unforeseen circumstances, but I was so lucky to have instructors who pushed me and helped me through some tough times, and ensured I achieved my goals and dreams. This year taught me, as well as my classmates, to adapt to change and with the support from all of our teachers and faculty, it was such a rewarding and fulfilling experience. I am beyond excited to begin my career as a Practical Nurse and am so thankful for the journey I’ve taken to get me to where I am.
