Overall Summary Statement
I am a recent graduate of the Business Administration - Accounting program at Confederation College. Confederation College has helped me develop my social and professional skills. All of the instructors and professors that taught me along the way were extremely helpful. I completed my work placement at MNP LLP as part of my third year of studies in Accounting. Completing the work placement has provided me with experience in the public accounting industry. I thank Alain Gosselin, the Faculty of Business and Work Placement Services for providing me with the opportunity to advance my career in the Accounting field.
Overall, I am glad that I chose Confederation College and I will be transferring to the third year for H.B.Comm - Accounting at Lakehead University, with the potential to complete my CPA designation afterwards.
My Job & Job Responsibilities
(as a Summer Student with MNP LLP)
- Assist with compilation, review, audit, bookkeeping and tax engagements
- Maintain, monitor and reconcile GL accounting, including but not limited to cash, bank reconciliations, prepaid expenses, A/R, A/P and payroll transactions
- Communicate with governments regarding information requests, assessments and installments
- Attend internal MNP courses to further develop your accounting and assurance knowledge
- Identify issues and errors, investigate discrepancies and discuss with managers or engagement partners to develop resolutions
My Advice for Someone Considering this Program or Career Path
Having worked in the Public Accounting sector for 5 months, I can attest that the environment is very fast paced and stressful. My advice to those who are feeling stressed out is to always reach out to managers/partners and ask questions, take frequent breaks when you feel overwhelmed.

Attention to detail, excellent communication, organizational skills, accountability for your own actions, experience with accounting software (such as Sage, QuickBooks, PayDirt, etc.)

Prior to enrolling in Accounting at Confederation College, I knew that the job market for individuals in the Accounting and Finance field was above average, compared to many other industries. This was the main reason I chose Accounting.
