Initial Impressions

On the day of the LHP orientation, our program Coordinator, Nadine Doucette, honestly mentioned that the program may not lead directly to a leadership role, but rather, the program can support students to gain work in their fields and to get into a leadership role after students gain Canadian experience. I was disappointed to learn that the program may not lead directly to a leadership role, and I was very pleased when the program did support me in my determination and pursuit to obtain a leadership role in healthcare.

About the Program & Faculty

The program covers all the essential elements needed to understand the Canadian healthcare system. The subject "Inter-Business Communication", provided us with the tools and opportunities to break out of our timid shells, to achieve the necessary business standards and boosted our confidence levels significantly. We were fortunate to have Marnie Nott as our instructor, though at times, we felt like we were in primary school. All of the subjects in the Leadership for Healthcare Professionals Program were interesting because the faculty members were adept at using various teaching methods to engage the students. Faculty have excellent knowledge of the subjects they teach due to the experience and education they have acquired in healthcare and the faculty are very eager to help students learn and succeed. All of the wise instructors are carefully selected by the School of Business.

My Research Project Led Me to Secure Employment in Leadership

Near the end of the second semester, I chose the topic "The Guide-career path for LHP graduates" as a research project in one of the courses, to learn about the graduate opportunities after completing LHP. Through my research, I learned that most of the LHP graduates did not utilize the various search methods to look for job that were taught during the Human Resources program. After graduating, I did apply this learning in my job and after using multiple job search methods, was successful in receiving an offer for a healthcare leadership role as an "Intake Coordinator", coordinating between the LHIN and a company. I would like to utilize this opportunity to thank all my instructors and give special thanks to the Program Coordinator, Nadine Doucette who supported each one of us throughout the LHP experience.
