Testimonial for Mechanical Engineering Technician from Chirag

Confederation College gave me hands-on training, engineering knowledge, and strong support as an international student—an excellent start to my career in mechanical engineering and skilled trades.

Full Story

I am about to graduate from the Mechanical Engineering Technician program and I am excited. I still remember that day when I made a decision to go to Confederation College for getting rounded experience. In the first year, I learned some skill trades work which tends to be quite hands-on experience. In second year, we learned about Mechanical Engineering which tends to be more knowledge-based, including designing, project building and project management. I also benefited from a co-op placement from college during summer. As a result, I have come to learn about many different aspects about Mechanical Engineering.

Overall it was a great experience to be here! Students who want to make career in just skill trades and find an apprenticeship in Millwright, Machinist, Pipe Fitter, Heavy Equipment, Welder, Insulator or Plumber, then this program could be the pathway to begin head start career in skill trades because after studying just one year we can get Mechanical Techniques certificate and graduate, OR we can also continue education in second year towards the engineering field. The staff in the International Education Centre were great and very supportive. They will start helping you as soon as you get your Offer of Admission and begin preparing for come to Thunder Bay. I also received a bursary award. They also helped me when I needed to apply for my work permit, co-op permit, and if I had any trouble I have got right support and guidance.
