How Confederation College Has Changed My life Confederation College has changed my life by providing me with an excellent education for my dream career. The inclusive and motivating environment of the college and the staff made it an unforgettable experience. My Most Positive Experience or Memory of Confederation College My most positive experience of Confederation College is building a family with my class to survive the program together. We worked together as a team to get through the tough assignments and exams and helped one another out if needed. My teachers were inspiring and motivating. They cared for each and every one of us and helped us as much as they could to become the best MRT we could be.
My Recollection of a Funny Story, a Fond Memory, a Teacher Who Made a Difference, etc.
A hilarious memory I have is from my second year at Confederation College and there was karaoke day in the cafeteria. One of our classmates signed up to sing! He was a very shy guy and so we were all in shock when he told us he was going up to sing! He was almost the last person to go up but we had a class to get to. We didn't want to leave our classmate to sing without our support so we decided as a class to be a few minutes late to watch him sing. A few minutes later we see our teachers walk through the cafeteria doors looking for us! We explained the situation and they stayed to watch him as well! It was the greatest moment knowing that we were united with the inclusion of our teachers.
Your Employment Perspectives My Job & Job Responsibilities (brief description)
I am currently an MRT working at the Thunder Bay Regional. My responsibilities include taking x-rays in the department, in the fracture clinic, around the hospital with the portable machine, in ambulatory care, in endoscopy, and in the operating room. My primary responsibility is to ensure image quality; with the lowest amount of radiation dose possible, to provide the Radiologist the best images in order to make a diagnosis for the patient. Patient care is at the center of my practice and I do my best to ensure their experience with diagnostic imaging is a great one.
What Brings Me the Greatest Satisfaction From My Job
Seeing my patients smile brings me the greatest satisfaction from my job. It reminds me that I'm there to help them. Even though I can't help them change the reason why they are in the hospital, it brightens my day, and theirs, knowing that they felt safe and cared for while I was doing their exam.
How Confederation College Has Prepared Me for Work in the Field
Confederation College has prepared me for work in the field by providing clinical labs and training that resemble the workplace. We were fortunate to have clinical Fridays where we went to the hospital to observe for one day each semester while taking our courses. The clinical placement was the part that helped the most and taught me that "textbook" is not always real life and you have to be able to adapt your practice in certain situations.
My Advice for Someone Considering this Program or Career Path
My advice for someone considering this program is to make sure you have the time to dedicate to this program. It is fast paced and advanced and it is easy to fall behind if you don't put in the effort. Also, keep your mind open for possible future connections when speakers come into your class. MRT is an excellent career if you enjoy constantly changing technology, patient care, and excitement.

The most sought-after qualifications and talents that employers are currently seeking in this field of work are registrations with the CAMRT and the CMRTO (OAMRS is optional but recommended). Engagement with continuing education and passion for your profession is always a plus. Patient care skills are expected to be of high quality and compassion.
My Sense of the Current Job Market Conditions in my Field of Work (local, provincial, national or international)
The current job market is low in Thunder Bay, but there are opportunities provincially, nationally and internationally. Having different modality training, such as Ultrasound or MRI, will boost your chance of getting a job in x-ray in Thunder Bay.
My Personal Success Highlights
My personal success highlights are achieving multiple awards through the College grants program for my excellent academics, volunteer work, and student leadership. I've been fortunate to receive the Student Award from the OAMRS (Ontario Association of Medical Radiation Sciences) in 2018. Graduating from the program and getting hired upon graduation has been the greatest success of all since it has been a dream of mine since 2011.
